Swaggy, Put it where they are for best success but we keep putting them in areas we don’t see them and the do seem to find them!
Take into account a clear flight in, facing sun most of the day if possible, and if they can exit over or near water.

Good job and great info! I think I need to build a couple of these. Last fall during elk season there were at least 50 wood ducks in a slough north of my quarter. If some were nesting around that slough it would be easy to attract them to the water on my land I would think.

Great project, we were just talking about building a couple of these last week. There is a couple of pairs that frequent my ponds through the winter and eat out of the feeders for my muskovies.
Wasn't sure how to build them a nesting box...now I know.
