I've been planning to get some custom wood furniture for my vz58 sporter (currently polymer furniture). The main issue I keep running into is the upper handguard. The grip, stock, and lower handguard can be all wood besides the hardware so they should be pretty straight forward to copy.
The upper handguard has the heat shield that helps lock into the front of the reciever. I was thinking ideally I could use the same heat shield in the polymer handguard the new wood handguard. I can't get the dang thing out though. I've seen people get them out of the beaver barf ones which have the tabs. Anyone able to get them out of the polymer? If they don't come out then where can I find a heat shield to use? I checked dlask and wolverine with no luck. Am I trying to do something that can't be done very easily?

Yup had one of them bent. Ended up using plyers to grab onto the takedown pin and rotated the plyers while holding the guard. That gave it the torque it needed and she came right out. Thanks for the response longshot.

go here and check them out, he makes custom heat shields for lower and i think upper, if you cannot open the link, its a private facebook group called "VZ 58 / VZ 2008 and Czech Guns" search them, ask for entrance to group and they have a purchase section, they're great! he charges about $25 plus shipping
