Wood stock bolt cut-out, anybody experienced in S. Ontario?

Working on a project rifle and I am too afraid to slightly deepen a bolt cut-out, as I am prone to overdoing it. Anybody with the correct tools in Southern Ontario that can help?

I don't have much experience but I have built a stock from a blank, I shaped the whole stock with a rasp and a file, I would think a round file would work. Take a little off at a go then set your action in the stock to see how it fits, keep repeating the process until your at the desired depth. If your careful it would be hard to take too much off with a file.

Use a fine rasp and file because you only want to fine sand to finish
