i have a savage model 111 with a synthetic stock, i was wondering if anyone knew if it is possiable to get a wood stock for this gun? aftermarket or from savage. the caliber is .300 win mag and with the synthetic stock it is quite a mule to shoot, any info would be greatly appreciated.

apparently the boyds stocks are interchangeable, but my savage is an older model with a removable clip, boyds stocks say they are for a blind magazine? im not familiar with this term anyone care to shed some light?, as well the button to remove the clip is on the side of synthetic stock on the gun currently, i cannot imagine that they make a custom stock for that, but any help again is appreciated.

If I recall correctly, while looking for a butt stock for a Savage 99 a few years ago, I talked directly to Boyds' and was told they could accommodate most demands for non-standard stocks. What they would need is a copy of the your stock you want replaced/duplicated.

Don't know if this is still available but an e-mail or telephone call would verify this.

Other stock makers such as Richards Microfit in California might also be able to help you.

From Richards Microfit web site:

11) I have a bolt action and don't see my action listed in your available actions list. Can I send you my stock to have the inletting copied?
First, please email or call us at (818) 767-6097 to determine if we have the correct pattern to inlet a stock for your action since we have patterns for many actions that we no longer normally machine stocks for. If we do not have a pattern, we may be able to use your stock for duplicating the inletting into one of our stock styles. This would be a special set up and an additional charge would apply depending on the type of pattern, action inlet, and other machine set up issues. Please call us to determine the additional charge. Special Set Up's do have a longer production time, so please verify the approximate lead time when ordering.

A blind magazine usually means no floor plate for the magazine. In other words, no hole in the stock.

Here's some more details:

An internal box or fixed magazine (also known as a blind box magazine when lacking a floorplate) is built into the firearm and is not easily removable. This type of magazine is found most often on bolt-action rifles. An internal box magazine is usually charged through the action, one round at a time. Military rifles often use stripper clips or chargers permitting multiple rounds, commonly 5 or 10 at a time, to be loaded at once. Some internal box magazines use en-bloc clips that are loaded into the magazine with the ammunition and that are ejected from the firearm when empty.
