Wood vs Synthetic

Going to get my son a new Tikka T3, should it be Wood or Synthetic? Why?


Leaning towads the walnut as I already have 2 synthetics. I would have made this a poll but it didn't want to work for me

I love the look and feel of real wood. If you are die hard-going out despite the weather-nothing holds me back kind of hunter/shooter, then there may be some merit to the more temperature stable synthetics. Other than that, it is walnut for me.

I'm going to have to put in my vote for wood. Something about a nice walnut stock that really does it for me. I hate that hollow plastic sound you get when you tap a synth stock, it sounds exactly like an old crossman pellet gun I had as a kid.

What rifle manufacture you suggest?

Todd prefers Mossbergs and Norincos. Just get him the biggest magnum he can find.

Tikka's shoot well and they are simple. Go with the synthetic, that way if you get bored with the black, you can always paint it.
(actually I like the look of the wood best IMO)

Not so sure about that. I have refinished a number of wood stocks.

I thinks it's just personal preference. I happen to like blueing and wood and take pleasure in maintaining it. Others don't - and that's cool with me.

Wood or laminate weighs a bit more in the Tikka and absorbs recoil way better than the synthetic...
