Thought id share my plans in case somebody has important incite to offer; ooor just to provide new reading content for people to criticize cou:

Well its official, Sasha, my Russian flame is going to get a booob job

The idea was originally sparked in my mind when I saw fellow CGN user "Umaka"s beautiful SVD stock that he built for his SKS !

I spent all morning brainstorming and examining Sasha... so I came up with this...

Just a rough sketch... Barrel to buttstock it will feature: D= already done

-Threaded muzzle = D
-Tapco Slant brake
-Smaller front sight post = D
-Removed bayo lug = D
-NCstar gas tube with the rail removed
-Small 1913 rail for grip or bipod etc.
-A Williams rear peep sight
-Bolt modification to allow drop free mags = D
-Tapco SKS mag = D
-Ejection window ground to 90 degree to allow side ejection = D
-SevenSixTwo systems mag release =D
-Custom made bolt release :d (I think I figured out a way to make one!)
-Side rail scope mount = D
-SKS trigger job =D
-Trigger over travel stop = D
-SVD cheek rest = D
-Butt plate = D

Im thinking i'll carve the stock from a solid Maple blank, purchased and planed down to desire thickness @ Black Forest in Calgary. I wanted to use laminate, but am worried that laminate will be to weak, plus Laminate is more expensive and harder to find.

Features of the stock will be of course an SVD style buttstock; I plan to make a wood/metal enforced lip in the magwell area of the stock that the Tapco mags can hook into that will achieve a "duckbilless" function, very similar to the SevenSixTwo systems plug, but this one is built in so there will be no chance of it coming loose over time. I also plan to cut away the front barrel band and do away with the gas tube and hand guard assembly entirely in order the extend the whole forend of the SVD stock (which will be one piece) past the original end of the previous factory forend; and taper the front of for looks. An NcStar gas tube with the silly rail REMOVED will replace the factory SKS gas tube system and a slot the same width of the barrel will be made along the top of the forend, in order to allow the removal of the NCstar gas tube, and the receiver/barrel assembly to pull straight up and out of the stock. Looking sort of like the design of the forends on VEPR's.

The rear of the receiver will be bedded in a way that is yet to be determined. The front of of the receiver and barrel near rear sight will be bedded and the pinned down tight to the stock by a steel cross key that will hammer through the steel lip that used to hold the front of the factory box mag.

I don't have the skills you do or the will to put that effort in.

So this is probably as close as I'll get lol. MC-5D in thumb hole stock.

Looking forward to seeing the end result. I see you already have the SevenSixTwo systems mag release. Are you happy with its installation and performance?

Happy with the mag release. The duckbilless plug is alright, but I noticed it loosens up over time, requiring a quick turn of an allen key to tighten it up again; the ark in which you have to insert the mags is a little extreme, but you get use to it.

@warrenlikesboats, I see you got grip close to trigger-guard, how are you planning to go about disassembling it?

The grip is a little off proportionally, it will be space back, and have the section between to grip and the trigger guard hollowed out, I may make a snap in, snap out filler piece out of wood to fill the gap for cosmetic reasons. Much like the Archangel SKS stocks.

I like your idea, but I too see an issue with the grip. Maybe you already have it figured out and just didn't quite explain it but you need to be able to rotate your trigger assembly up at the back to remove it. So your grip will have to be hollowed out quite a ways up maybe that it what you meant about making the plug? I'm just trying to make sure you think of those issues before you start shaping out a stock.
Can't wait to see some progress!

Yah certainly, no the grip will be spaced back like an Archangel stock... I contemplated about moving the whole trigger assembly forward near the mag release for better balence, but decided it wasn't worth the effort since I Althea have a VZ, and maybe a T81 in the future.
