Seen three Wood Ducks with ducklings in a slough on my way home from work tonight.
Didnt have my camera with me..besides the road was kinda narrow and a few cars running up close behind me too.
So anyone else seeing any Water Fowl with young ones ?
Rob
ps. going to make sure camera is ready and it being Saturday tomorrow will find a parking spot and see if I can snap a pic or three.

I have ducks but not babies here yet.

Two sets of Wood Ducks have been around, and I put one nest box up already with another planned for across the pond. Thought that the swans might be here for the long haul, but they were just biding their time before going further.

Pretty sure we had at least one batch of woodies here last year, along with the ruddy ducks (at least six batches), coots (dozen+), and mallards (five or six batches).

Ducks are good. And they don't scream day and night like natures Crack Whores, the geese.

Cheers

Oar owls, doves, Cummins straight pipes.............................nayboors dawgs owl'in
at sighrins.

Ahhh yes, the life in the zubberps.

Seen a pair floating about on the Bow. Beautiful colours. I think DU set up a couple nesting boxes on the island across my yard before the flood.....

When did Wood Ducks start appearing in B.C? Thats quite interesting. They have traditionally been an Eastern bird.

Wood ducks have been in B.C. for as long as I can remember.

We were out sturgeon fishing on the Fraser yesterday and saw a pair of Canada geese with at least 4 young on one sandbar. I thought that this was very early considering incubation is over a month.

I think they were always here, just got really uncommon for a bunch of decades.

Habitat loss, from what I have read, was the biggie, as the dead hollow trees got taken out and the peace and quiet they want went away.

The one pond I hunt is almost all wood ducks.. I took a walk back there the other night and watched all the wood ducks landing. Dozens. Was nice didn't see any ducklings

Lot's of pairs of mallards around my place. Haven't seen any little ones yes but always see a few pairs in the pond and creek just down the road.

Not sure when they started appearing but have been around Babine Lake BC for 30 plus years to the best of my knowledge. This part of Babine Lake is a major flight path and we get quite a variety in the spring and fall. Counted 16 different varieties a couple springs ago, probably missed quite a few as well. The Trumpeters are there most impressive bird for us.

Been looking the last couple of days and cant only go so far as the slough has private property on most sides and at the ''T'' junction.
They can be almost anywhere.
Loved the flash of color from the drake ...thats what caught my eye anyways.
Thanks for sharing guys and sure wished I had a pic or two to share.

First batch of Mallard ducklings on the pond this AM.

Hard to keep an accurate count, but it was either 11 or 12 of them in a horde behind their mother.

Great to see!

Still not sure if the woodies hung around this spring. Have seen a couple pairs though, and I do hope they take up residence.

Cheers
