just checked out the regs and we finally get to hunt turkey in the fall around my area. one of either ### which will be great to finally get rid of some hens. the fall season is only 12 days long but im sure it wont be a problem getting a hen.

who else will be going after them this fall? i always see them while deer hunting, but what type of calling should be used in the fall?

Not me, I've got bigger things to hunt in the fall.:)

If I wasn't moose hunting then, I probably wouldn't hunt turkey anyway...

I look forward to beer/moose/deer season all year. I don't have time to try to get turkey too. Don't get me wrong, I love turkey hunting, but the fall is reserved for big game, and maybe the odd bunny and woodcock during the day between hunts.

i cant even remember how many times ive seen a flock of turkey walk right by my deer stand. they seem to think they are safe during the fall but they will have a wake up call this fall when one of their buddies starts doing the funky chicken:D

but then again to me the fall means pretty much everything is in season:shotgun:

ill be going out in WMU 90

heres a link to the regs.

You need to get rid of turkeys??? Why, are they stocking your sheep or attacking hickers?

the turkey are just like deer around here...too many of them. well hens anyways. its normal to go out for a spring hunt and see more turkey than squirrels or on a fall deer hunt its normal to see flocks of 30+ birds where only 3 or 4 are toms.

there are too many hens around so im very happy we can finally start getting their numbers down some.

sounds like a good idea as long as you can carry over your lisences not used in the spring.
But i am sure the MNR will make you buy another. :runaway::runaway:

You will have to buy another tag which doesn't bother me as I harvested two mature birds this spring - However, I'm torn on the whole scenario. I'm an avid turkey hunter and have been for some years.
I would have liked to see a hen only fall season if the MNR's interest is to thin flocks in specific areas in Ontario - with a 10 day season it seems unlikely due to both the required methods to hunt fall turkey (they will not be responding to typical spring calling methods in the fall) and the decision to make the hunt over-lap with the white-tail bowhunt that any great pressure will be put on the birds - hens or toms/jakes.
I believe the majority of birds harvested will likely be ambushed from above by whitetail hunters as a secondary quarry - still not an easy task but easier and in my opinion more sporting than scaring flocks and then calling them back with kee kee sequences as they try to re-group.
Due to how this has been organized it's difficult to believe this isn't just another licencing/tag grab. That said, I will have a tag in my pocket while bow hunting this fall.

Should be an interseting hunt reqiring different tactics than spring hunting. Lots of the Yanks perfer the fall hunt. Still can't see shooting a hen but a nice plump little Jake that is still nice and tender I think would be real nice. Turkeys fed on grain and not starved by wintewr and eating sour buds and such. mmmmm.
The Yanks often use dogs to bust a flock then call them back together. My dog would love to bust the flock but I doubt any ten fellers even wearing gloves would get him in that bag especially a second time:D
