I bought a Colt 1911 MkIV Series 80. Well put together gun, but the tigger feels like a Glock; creepy, gritty and 6.5 lbs.

I was going to order a Cylinder and Slide Series 80 safety upgrade kit in the hopes of getting some of the creepy, gritty feel out. Should I be swapping out the sear spring too? If so, what one would anyone recommend? Keep in mind that is want it to fire all brands of ammo; no Federal primer only springs.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Unless you are desperate to keep the gun in Series 80 configuration you might want to start with a frame slot filler:

This allows you to get rid of all the Series 80 firing pin block actuating levers which contribute to poorer triggers on those guns. Then you can buy a Series 70 upgrade kit which should help considerably.

I do have a Series 80 Gold Cup with a wonderful trigger but it was worked on by a good gunsmith. If you're intent on doing it yourself the above parts change recommendations might be the way to go. On the other hand you could contact a good 1911 gunsmith like Roger Kotanko and he might be able to fix your Series 80 gun without the cost of a parts kit so in the end the total price might be a wash.

I considered the slot filler, but am apprehensive of removing safeties.

Do you have contact info for Roger? I had been in contact with a CAS gunsmith (using this for Wild Bunch) but have had dead air for a while so I was going to swap the parts out myself.
