Worried about the "club" I'm registered with

I got a question for you guys. A number of dealers have asked me if the club I'm with is an actual club or just a range. It says gun club on the cards and at the range but they have told me that there are ranges that call themselves clubs just because it sounds better and is a way for them to make memberships. I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere thats why I'm worried cause I've been told that I could lose my restricted weapons if it turns out that place isn't an official club.

whadda guys think? Ive used this club name to apply for ATT's and there hasn't been any problems so does that mean I'm all good? I don't talk to anyone in the club I just use it so I can get my guns :D so I have no idea if its legit or not.

Discharge of a restricted firearm is only allowed at CFC approved facilities....So as long as your place of shooting is approved by the CFC (obviously it is because they issued you an ATT for it) then you are good to go.

Call your CFO.

If your CFO says it's a Club, it's a Club. If your CFO says it isn't a Club...

Umm

Hmmmm

Lets see

Do I or do I not want to assist this individual

Let me contemplate this for ..................a decade or so.

Well I mean I use the range. Everyone there is like 70year old farmers with .22's what the hell is gonna happen when I show up with my AR they'll probably be so confused they'll phone the cops lol.

K well thats all I needed to know m8 thanks. The people I spoke with at various shops told me that the CFC doesn't even check if its a club or not at first which didn't make much sense to me but since they owned a shop I took their word for it.

You would be suprized how many of those old boys will reconize a military style weapon when they see or hear one.

Better yet, he'd probably be surprised at how many of them are better with that style of rifle than he is ;)

Some of those "old" guys I've seen at the range have had real world experience with some of these firearms. They've probably forgotten more about these rifles than most of us will ever know.

I won't speak in his defense, but offer a few thoughts. The club I belong to seems more geared for "target" shooting, olympic style or whatever you would call it. It's also lead bullet only for the indoor range, and I think there might be a fps limitation as well due to old back stops.

Now take that, with a 5 round maximum for pistols, and you really encourage me to not want to shoot with you. And 20 meter targets only.It also took forever to get my 3 probationary shoots in before becoming a member.

I find it much more enjoyable to go shooting, and not take myself that serious. I like to scare paper, another CGN'er here I've shot with likes to burn powder.

Also, during one of my probationary shoots, there was a member shooting next to me. As I sometimes give my pistols a quick clean when I'm done, I asked him where is the best area for this at the outdoor range.

I got the biggest eyeroll, and he went back shooting....the girlfriend comments, what an arsehole. Just food for thought.....

Like I've said, I'm not standing up for this guy, but there might be more to the story, and he came across wrong.

One can only hope...

Then of course you can sit them down and EXPLAIN to them what the laws are and how the AR operates. Let them try a few rounds and CONVERT THEM!

Let them see that young people such as yourself can be confident SAFE shooters and an asset to the club. Show up some Saturday and cut the lawn, shovel the snow. Paint something etc.

Ask them to let you shoot their .22s. I bet that they can show you a bit about shooting.

If EVERYONE at your club is in their 70s and you "young bucks" do not get involved...........you need not worry long because in about 10 years THERE WON'T BE A CLUB to worry about!

Do not take anyones WORD for anything.

Research it yourself.

Most gun show owners have their own misinterpretations.

Most cops are also wrong when it comes to some of the finer details of the law.

Instead RESEARCH yourself and make sense of things YOURSELF. Certainly take peoples advice but make sure you get the background FACTS to make sure of everything.

Amen to that most gun owner , store staff , including very well established dealers dont now ####, make up stuff and just dont uderstand the laws.

ALWAYS do your own homework CGN is a fantastic place for that but never listen to only one guy, when 5 or 6 membres like in this case say the same thing : if you have an ATT then everything is fine. then you have a pretty good chance its true.

That was a fast decade:)

While I wouldn't recommend completely isolating yourself at your club, there are individuals at my club whom I avoid. Although on their website the club posts about trying to get new younger shooters in, when you show up, "the olde boys club theme" prevails and it can be very unwelcoming.

Its not like in your face rude or anything, just somewhat unwelcoming. Other clubs I have been a member at are very accepting of young shooters.
