Just got back from WMU13 in Ont. North of Thunder bay.Never have seen such weather!!! It rained continually for the first 4 days!!!! We still tried to hunt but never even heard any shots on opening day or any further days! Very unusual. No tracks,no answer calls, no hunters(well very few). In 31 years up there first time we never had such bad luck!! Anyone else here hunt up there this year? Any luck? Can't believe its "GLOBAL WARMING!!!!"JITC:jerkit::confused:

I also had a very difficult moose hunt this year. I was in camp for 5 days and called in nothing but wolves, coyote and a couple dink moose. It was windy with sleet and snow nearly the whole time which was the main problem.

I went out on a few day trips after and finally timed it right and got an evening where the wind started to calm down. With the weather turning around I easily called in and shot an ok bull, smaller than I wanted but not bad.

I feel your pain, the most unsuccessful hunts I have been on are the ones were you pick your hunting days ahead of time then have the weather turn to ####.

Best days... wake up in the morning, get a sense that it is going to be a good hunting day, go out and have nothing but success. It's my favorite way to hunt.

I was up north of Sudbury for just small game with a friends and there were lots of moose hunters around. I stopped to talk to one and he said in like the 25 years he has been coming up there, he saw nothing. He said something very weird must have happened.

The weather was also crap, rain rain and more rain. Just think, if it was colder, it would have been snow

We used to hunt 15B - until a few years ago. Drove into Armstrong for supplies and the guy in the store asked 'How do you like our summer?'

The week we were there had been the nicest weather that they had seen since the previous year. Bugs were out - it was f'n hot. If you managed to shoot a moose, you had better have access to a cooler or it was going to spoil.

The weather did turn, after a few days, and we were hunting in the snow and drove home in a snow storm. Crazy.

Turned us off.

i was up the armstrong highway (North of Thunder Bay) for opening weekend Same story, rain and no moose activity. I was too close to the city though, there were hunters everywhere...I won't be going back there again. There was one guy, out of close to 30 hunters we spoke to, and he jumped up a bull in heavy bush and wounded it.

I had two fellas from Sweden fly here, pay 8G US each, and we sat in rain and sleet and hot weather and did not get a moose.

In comparison, it sounds like you saved 16G's.................lol

They were hunters. They knew this is how it goes sometime. And they booked for next year.

That's hunting.

Lots of rain up here in the Yukon this year as well.
I went for 9 days moose hunting and I don't think it went for more than 4-6 hours without some sort of rain/snow.
Just pack the rain gear and harden the #### up I say.

One option is to go home I guess but what fun would that be?:D

But then I don't know too many guys who shoot moose while laying on the couch eating Twinkies either.:jerkit:

In the spring at our camp near Timmins we would count 15 to 25 moose in one week. This year is the first since 1989 we only saw 3. In the month of Sept at our camp we only saw 3 and I just spoke with the gun groups in camp and no luck yet since the opener. Makes you question what has changed?

just got back from hunting area#8 and 9A...like you say the sighting,s are rarer every year...
the weather was the craps..but all the fun that was had by all in our group was worth gold...

I took a drive from timmins to hearst last sat for work, the weather sucked rain snow blowing winds. But some guys near hearst must have made out ok,saw at least 6 vehicles going south with bulls in the trucks. From spike bulls to some pretty impressive older bulls.

Hunted for a week,rained for 6 days straight.Came home 1 day early & it was nice out no rain.Saw a large bull opening day,watched him for 15 minutes @ 15 yards.NO TAG  DAN>>>

I only started seeing moose on trailers and in pickups this week. Opening week was a right off because of all the rain and warm weather. I spent opening week clearing beaver ponds for the local roads boards, because of the rain a lot of ponds were letting go and flooding roads.

Moose are moving now. Nights are getting cold and it hasn't rained for a few days now.

We went to WMU 13 last year, Dorion Cutoff Rd. Saw 80 hunters and no moose. Lesson learned, too close to Thunder Bay.

I was hunting south of Timmins for the opening week. It rained for the first 5 days, then switched to snow. We did see a nice bull opening day, but like DizzyDan we had no bull tag. Saw nothing but tracks after that.

We took a bull north of Hearst on opening week, on day 5. Other than that, not much sign, no answered calls etc. Weather was ok, a fair amount of rain but some days it got a little too warm.

My brother got a tag this year, and in NB your chances of being drawn are between 4 and 5% usually. Anyways, they had their spot picked out an hour after they read the paper this summer and they visited the site several times this summer just to take a look, and not one time did they fail to see a moose.

So wednesday (26 sept) as they were driving in to the camp, they pass 2 trucks with the local native reserve's plumbing company logo on them....and guess what's in the back?!? When they get to their stands they quickly notice that these guys had totally trashed their stands and left garbage and beer bottles/cans EVERYWHERE! Now one can say "how do you know it was those guys", but my brother had been their 3 days before to take a look at the area and take some stuff out to the camp. But I guess in the end that's what you get for posting your hunting spot...which essentially advertises to everyone else theres a moose here.

I don't hold any hard feelings with native/metis as hunting/fishing etc are their ancestry rights...but when ethics and consideration are thrown out the window, it really doesn't help win any popularity contests. I'm friends with plenty of natives, and I know guys with their status who still buy their license siomply because they believe in the conservation efforts where the money goes...and too me that speaks volumes.

Anyways, just my rant....makes me think twice about posting any of my spots. Also explains why people in NB are rather secretive about hunting spots...you can't blame them. People have a tendency here to fish/hunt out any spot as soon as they find out there's a lifeform there.

We hunted about 60 miles west of Hearst and had the same terrible experience. Rain and wind all week. a couple days we didn't get out at all. We did manage to get a calf although didn't see any other moose other than its momma. Worst hunting I've ever had.

I'm noticing that guys don't like the rain much? Out of the 3 we've taken in the past 4 years, I think they've all been in the rain.
Besides getting wet, I like the rain. Supresses noise and scent, and as long as it's not really warm, the animals should be movin.
Snow would be better of course, but ultimately, I think the rain has helped our hunts.
