Placed an order with Wholesale Sports for some large and small pistol primers. I got a phone call from one of their service reps explaining to me that ALL large and small pistol primers are NO LONGER available in Canada due to the fact that they are all going to the US Army.
I laughed at the guy on the phone and asked him if he was dead serious and he said yes. So i canceled the rest of my order with them. Could explain the reasoning behind the HUGE price increase at my local sporting goods store for the same pistol primers and powder.

At the beginning of november all firearms related products coming from the USA had increased between 10 and 20 perecent... due to the change in the dollar...

Call them back and ask if the US army is using a Dilon or Hornady to load there ammo?

I rather doubt that. The US army has contracts with companies for exclusive spec ammo...

I rememeber reading in 2007 that Winchester had a contract with the FBI for 1 billion rounds of ammo... once that contact is completed then they start making ammo for other people they have contracts with then the rest is sold to US public and anything left over comes up to us... but dont quote me.

I tried to get some CCI primers from my suppliers they where out of stock too weird... but they had lots of federal and winchester that was about a month ago.

I heard from my american shooting friends that people in the states are buying up everything shooting related right now they cant keep there stores stocked and the wholesalers cant keep up they are afraid of what obama will do...

Yep, a US friend told me the same thing. If you look at the stock of components on various US retail websites, most "quantity in stock" is zero. Also, many are 1 to 2 weeks behind shipping orders.

Yeah my local sporting good store charged me $49.99/1000 large or small. I got the Federal primers. Seemed an okay deal at the time until i went on Wholesale and they were selling the CCI primers for 23.99/1000. Oh well, i got 2000 primers to start me on the right track.

Question for you about the Lee 1000 reloader i got from you. Im a little leary about the auto-disk powder measure it came with. Did you "trust" the discs for an accurate measure? I got a scale coming but just wondered your thoughts on it.

I acutally talked to my lee supplier I wanted to stock up on some presses for christmas time... they got a major lee order in and within 4 hours a whole transport was spoken for...

wow that seems alot for federal primers...

On the lee kit I would recomend looking at paperwork and pick the correct size disk for the powder set it up and then for the first 10 bullets measure the poweder its dropping... normally when I change disks or powders before I seat the first 10 bullets I check each one to see how much powder is in the case and then adjust if nessary... if its a little on the light side its fine because if you move up to the next disk hole it could be more then the maxium... which you cant exceed.

Check check and double check if your not sure check again.

I have used the the same kit you have to load many many rounds with the disk once its set its good... you can check ever 50th charge if you still not trusting the kit once you have loaded a couple thousand you will know... I look at every case before the bullet is seated just a quick glance will save you trying to pound out squib loads when they get stuck in your barrel.

Oh ps the federal primers are pretty soft compared to winchester so be careful when your priming till you get the feeling you wouldn't want to crush one and have it go off... its never happened to me but its something you should have in the back of your mind when reloading if you feel something abnormal when pressing the handle down stop and check out the primer area.

Gotcha..........im one of those measure 10x kind of guys. So I will do that.

I think the price for the primers is high which is the reason for sourcing them out elsewhere.
I was reading the warning sign about the Federal primers being "touchy". So I will feel my way thru it ;)
With the primer.....im thinking i'll end up buggering a couple anyway trying to find the right "spot" to seat them.

There is not really any adjustment on the lee pro 1000 when its seated its seated...only way is to either machine away or add material to the priming device on the press.

Hmmm, I dunno... just came back from Louisiana last afternoon, there were many many boxes of primers at Cabela's in their Gonzales' store...

I'm having a heck of a time finding Lapua 308 brass at the moment. Some online places are sold out of every brand of 308 brass.

I did manage to secure 10,000 Federal 210M primers though... and I too got them from a Cabela's. Retail loacations have a lot of stuff in stock that the mail order places don't. Cabela's doesn't pull from the retail floors to fill mail orders.

How much ($)? I can have it sent to a place in Canada. I already have Lapua 308 on my Form 6, so I can just pick it up and bring it back with me next time I go up.

Wait, you're in KW aren't you? No shipping needed then...

Hey Andrew, just wanted to let you know that your ideas about measure measure measure worked like a charm....i poured 10 rds to look for consistency and after that i loaded 12 rds and headed to the range :runaway:

Every single one cycled perfectly :dancingbanana:

Thankyou for the advice :)

Now you should be good to go... but like I said when your sitting there cranking them out for speed to get lots of rounds done look at the case that has powder in it just before it seats the bullet on the 3 stage once you looked at a few you will know if the powder seems about right...

How was the accuracy better then factory I hope...

Everyone knocks lee but I bet there are more lee presses turing out ammo then hornady and dillion put together...

Its funny. As I was reloading them, I was more concerned with whether the primer was seating and then checking the powder levels before i proceeded. After i got the feel of it, it went good. I did have a couple primers that tipped, but the plate timing was off a smidge so it was easily fixed.
Accuracy was good, outta the "box" i was able to get paper at 25yds. Not bad for a guy that needs new contact lenses :D
I wasnt able to get the 230gr RN so i settled for the 200gr FN and my Norinco didnt give a fat rats ass. She was hungry and ate thru them no problem. So, after the range i came home and loaded up about 100rds of 45.
Now cant wait to get my 38super home so that i can reload for her. I have a couple dummy rounds done up at different lengths, but im not going to reload anything until i have my pistol in hand so i can see what she will cycle better.
I like my Lee and im happy with it. The brass collator isnt needed yet as im slow in my reload process, but the bullet feeder may be a thing in the very near future. Big fingers in little places make for big frustration.
