Hi

Just wondering if it worth the money to move to a 28 - 30" barrel for my savage 10-fcp-k 308

Currently it is fully stock

I am shooting lapua 167grain scenar with Varget and am now starting to go past 300 yards, my goal is getting to 800 yards

Maybe I should replace the stock or rebed it instead.

Regards

Stock rifle has a 24" barrel, no? 800yds is perfectly doable with quality reloads.

What kind of groups are you getting at 300? Velocities?

I am getting usually around 0.70" groups @ 300 yards

Don't know velocity, never measured, don't have a chronograph

Stock barrel is 24“ 1:10 twist

Regards

0.7 inch?!? Or do you mean 0.7MOA?
Either way, you should be good.
Velocities are useful but not critical.
If you are able to hit up the Edson range, you can simply dial in a couple MOA at each 100m increment and "walk" your dope chart out as far as you like.

0.7", not MOA

I just signed up to Edson, I am maxed out at my current range at 300Yards (Wildwood), should be heading there this Sunday. Never Been there before

Yeah, dial in the wind and you'll be laughing. You should also try the 1/2 MOA challenges, be nice to see a 308 on the 300m list.

I wouldn't be worried. Generally the first thing I upgrade is the trigger. Bedding is only truly necessary if you are getting unexplained flyers from the action shifting, and the stock is just ergonomics/personal preference. And if you change anything, there is a chance it will affect your results.

.7" at 300 yds. You'd be a fool to touch anything on that rifle. Just leave it alone and keep shooting it.

Not sure where you get the idea a ridiculously long bbl is required for longer ranges? I shoot a 20" barrelled 308 at 1000 yds and have gone as far as 1200 yds with it.

Exactly this. If you are getting 0.7" @300 yards from a factory rifle I wouldn't touch a thing and happily bang away.

I have the same rifle myself and have gone to 800m with 168 Hornady HPBT over 43 grn of RL 15. Cases are nosler and the primers are Federal gmm 210m. Right around the 2750 fps mark. After 800 though they are very inconsistent, I'm going to switch to a 175 scenar and work up a load for that. Once you have it figured out come shoot our PRS matches in Edson next season.

See you on the range,
