I have a rem 700 LSS Mountain in 30-06...curious how much the barrel costs?
Curious on hunting rifles that cost upwards of 700 dollars, what most of the cost is being justified by? I.E wha is the most expensive part of the rifle that you're paying for?

I read somewhere that the cost to Ruger for a factory barrel was $15. I'm sure it's pretty close to that for everyone else, too. Economics of scale. Most of what you're paying for is marketing and a delivery system, labour (probably the largest portion, it is the single largest cost for almost all manufacturers), and a legal department. - dan

mr00jimbo,
As far as I know, the most expensive component in a factory rifle is is a wooden stock. This a lot of the motivation behind tupperware stocks, make the most expensive component into the cheapest and tell the customer that you're doing him a favor. Put the difference in your pocket

I was once told by the Remington rep. the greatest portion of the cost of a Remington 700 was the advertising budget. I don't doubt it. Regards, Bill.
