Worthy Candidate for De-Sporterizing?

I bought this sportered No. 4 a few years ago and I really enjoy shooting the .303 but I'd like to have an original condition No. 4 to shoot. Mine is certainly in very good condition so I'd like to use it if I could, but I'm not sure about the barrel... It has "SURREY" stamped on the top and has a total length of 24 1/2" (1 3/4" less then specified on surplusrifle.com). It still has the depression where the front sight would clamp onto though, so I'm fairly sure I'm ok, even if isn't 100% authentic.
How much should I be paying for a full set of wood? I've seen individual pieces for very little ($25 or less) or matching complete sets for over $100.

You don't want a shortened barrel, as 303carabine mentions looks like yours was cut. Your No4 looks like a decent hunting rifle, chances are you could get decent money for it, should you decide to sell it, and use the funds to acquire a sporterized but not drilled, not cut, Bubba No4... Or add a bit more money and get an already fully original No4... My $0.02,

Your's has had an inch lopped off, not 1.75". Not that it matters. The bayonet lugs are gone too. The muzzle looks like it has been turned down to do this. To take it back to military configuration you would require another barrel. Look around for another rifle.
 
I think I will re-invest in an original rifle as suggested, if I'm lucky I'll get something that shoots equally as well.

Oops I meant to say 3/4", but perhaps thats wrong as well, I was just going with what I found on surplusrifle haha.

Hey that's MY plan :D

I have a Bubba'ed No4, shortened barrel, even a amazingly tasteless carving of a deer head on the Butt stock... :runaway: Perfect for going in the rough to get the deer out in the open. Funny, my buddies always insist that I get to do it, since their rifles are way too clean for the job. Maybe I'm just dumb?

I have another No4, ready for retrofit - the stocks are coming, the bands, etc. Will be nice, and will shoot at the range...
