Hey everyone! Wasn't sure where to post this so hope this is the right spot.

I'm planning to open a business and need to know if 3 gun shooters would enjoy it.

I want to open a shooting range for airsoft based all around tactical shooting/3 gun. I would also be holding 3 gun airsoft tournaments. It would be indoor range with store front.

Let me know if you would be interested in training in this kind of atmosphere.

Again sorry if this is the wrong spot but thanks for looking!

If it’s a 3 Gun topic you’re in the right spot.

Don’t know much about airsoft except it doesn’t appeal to me and I can’t see myself doing it. But I know a couple of other 3 gun guys that were briefly attending an indoor airsoft range a couple years ago and they seemed to enjoy it. They tried to get me interested but I wasn’t.

My impression was it was mostly younger guys and or non rpal holders that seemed to shoot airsoft, including one young guy I was coaching before the lockdown. He’d really only shot airsoft prior and I was amazed at how fast and good he’d managed to get from just his airsoft training. So you may have some limited luck with some 3 gunners, but my guess is most of your potential clients would likely be younger guys and girls that don’t have RPAL’s.

Not all bad, introducing people into the sport, my only hope is it would feel like a in range, where you can safely practice draw speed and movement. Maybe even Barack badge courses. Thanks for your input!

The airsoft/paintball gang seems quite eager to cheerfully splatter their buddies in the course of their sport, while on the live-fire side our safety training gives us the ingrained habit of never even sweeping another human being. The one time I was invited to one of "their" events I found myself hesitant to splatter my first opponent, and on the other hand I fear that a paintball veteran with a real gun in his hands may be a lethal accident about to happen. Therefore I think it's better that the communities don't overlap too much and we don't have people trained with contradictory instincts.

I have an airsoft version of my primary IPSC rig that I use for backyard practice, and currently it’s the only shooting I’m getting in so I’m very glad I have it. I don’t shoot airsoft competitively and not super interested in starting but I know of some seriously talented IPSC dudes who started in airsoft so it would be a very easy jump off point for new shooters. (And I’ve never seen them sweep anybody or “forget” they were shooting real guns)

That said, and I don’t know much about airsoft shotguns...can you even quadload? If you are aiming at drawing in active 3 Gunners then I think as a training tool, it’d have to be as close to the real deal in terms of mechanics and movement to make it attractive. And people active in the sport would want to use as much of their actual competition gear as possible.

Then there’s cost...unless you are renting the actual guns and mags, it’s a sizeable investment with most decent airsoft guns I’ve seen costing a few hundred dollars each - something the occasional hobbyist / first timer is likely to balk at.

I think there’s probably a market but I can’t say how big it would be or how much interest the 3 Gun / Competitive shooting community in your region would have. If you are setting up an airsoft range, might be best to target active airsofters first and then try to market to the cross-overs once you are established.

I’d probably give it a try in the winter / off-season if you rented gear...

That would be interesting - Have airsoft but with the rules of IPSC - a safety / discipline component

A buddy was asking me about something similar, but said it would be more like IPSC or 2-gun, as airsoft shotguns typically suck.

I might do it in the off-season just to scratch an itch, but there's NO way I'd bother buying gear. So reasonable rentals would have to be an option. Aaaand I'd also have no interest in running different platforms than I run in 3-gun, so if the guns I shoot weren't available for rent in airsoft versions, I'd also pass (Pretty standard stuff- Shadow, AR, VersaMax. Though a similar tube fed shotgun would be fine).

Lol you have some hurdles in front of you if you're trying to get the real 3-gun crowd to come out and try it.

If you could manage a simunition range (unsure of regs on that...) you'll get a lot more interest IMO. Probably much more expensive and more headaches but as realistic as you can get without real ammo.

Yeah, this is already a set up sport for aisofters in some areas but definitally not mine. It may have to be 2 gun I was thinking rentals of popular guns for very close simulations and run exact or as close to copies. I'm glad to hear there is interest! Of course if done correctly!

Reach out to AirSoftdepot.ca they have been doing it in Toronto for some time.

seriously? you fear a paintball verteran with a real gun in his hands may be a lethal accident waiting to happen..... that is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen anyone type on cgn…. probably in the top 10 .
I am a paintball veteran and a gun owner and I find your comment insultingly stupid

I have had a very different experience working in the firearms industry, I can not count the endless times I have been swept by the old veteran firearms owners handling firearms at the counter. Not to mention how many point them down the isle ways when shouldering long guns. Stupid is stupid no matter where you find it.

Id think youd do much better business wise by just setting up another airsoft field for the conventional playing style.
