I got my new Cabela's catalogue in the mail last week and there was a nice Remington 700 SPS Varmint Rifle now I'm new to this whole shopping for gun thing would it be wrong for me to bring the catalogue with me to a local shop and compare prices right there? I'm sure these shops get the same catalogue and are aware what their prices are vs. others, but I don't want to be an ass and rub their faces in their higher prices. besides I'm not sure how much wiggle room stores have on gun mark-ups.
I'm just a little nervous ordering guns from a catalogue, I don't have a lot of trust in any mail service (UPS included) so I would rather go to a store.
If you have any comments on the Rifle that would nice as well.

Bring it with you, but keep it in the car.

Most shops will bargain with you if you have proof that sombody else is selling it lower.

That said, if you plan to be a frequent buyer at the shop, you will probably have better luck with discounts in the future if you just pay the extra $50 for the gun rather then haggle. Nobody wants to be known as the cheap skate at the local store.

As a business owner, I would welcome you to come to my store with competitor literature, giving me an honest shot at your business. If they get offended or are disrespectful, then buy from their competitor.
