Would this suffice for a new-precision rifle?

I am about to spend, all new:

- Rem 700P- .308
- Leupold 8.5-25 x 50 TMR scope
- Badger Odinance 1-piece 20 MOA base & rings
- target crowned
- bedded free floated
- target crowned

I know what I'm getting into, but can't do the labour myself so I'm spending some extra funds I have for this. I know I'm helpngout the fellow smits' to earn alivng but dont want to send too much at the moment

Not sure the Badger stuff is worth the $$, but I'd suggest you check with Alberta Tactical Rifle, he's got all that stuff ready to go ... rifle already bedded.

It is not a "precision" rifle per se, but it is a nice factory rifle with the right high-quality added components. If it shoots accurately, so much the better. A match barrel and accurizing the action would be the essential steps in making it a competitive precision rig.

I have a 'base' 700P with a 3200 Mildot, despite it not being a ' precision rifle per se' its good enough for .6 with portugese surp....

It should be easy to get 1/2 MOA with that rig, provided you spend some time developing handloads. Nevertheless, it can't be a precision rifle unless you spend over $3000 ? or is it $4000 ? anyone ?

I suspect that will get you exactly what you want, and will provide an excellent base should you decide to trick it out later on. The 700p stock has a huge palm swell that isn't everyone's cup of tea but that'd be about it.
I had pretty much that same setup and it shot great if I kept up my end. In fact, my lifetime best ever groups at 100 and 200m were with that setup. Of course, because I never know when to quit, it's now in the shop getting rebarreled etc. :p

I forgot , yet again, after all its Canada we ban on looks, seems like every firearms related crime 80% of the time involves a PSG1, if they had enhanced registration would that not cure the rampant abuse of this particular rifle;)

So, wait, AR-15 variants look almost identical to fully-automatic M4 military rifles and they're not prohibited yet the PSG-1 is prohibited and is supposed to look like... what exactly?

here's pics of my 700p LTR w/ Bushnell eEite 4200 Tactical (6-24x50), Seekins Precision 20 MOA base/ 30mm low rings, Harris bipod (model hbrms), Tac Ops large bolt knob (not yet installed)...

if i were you, i'd do a bit more research on the base/ rings, then contact Glen Seekins from Seekins Precision to find out about a decent set up for your scope. his stuff is top quality for a number of reasons (one being that HE makes everything himself at his home shop, and inspects everything 100%). and the price is very agreeable compared to other setups.

as for the shooting goes, my setup is brand new and has just been broken in. although i've managed to hit wine bottles first shot at 600yds (w/ cheap 180g Federal rounds). all i need now is a decent 800-1000yd range, and i'm set!!
my scope's current zero is 200yds, but i'll be changing that tomorrow to 100yds (in case you're wondering why, it's so all my MOA is adjusted up from 100yds, since i'll never be shooting at anything w/in that distance). and if you need help w/ range cards/ trajectory/ MOA or anything like that, pm me and i'll email you some stuff!!

That is the LTR, Redman. The Light Tactical Rifle. It's supposed to be a short more compact rifle, so 20" barrel and fluted with an HS stock. Enjoy.

Pazzo, is that a fluted barrel I'm seeing? Does that come standard with the 700P? Thanks.

thanks Bitterman!!
yea, it comes factory w/ the fluted barrel (1:12 twist), HS Precision stock, parkerized finish, . i like the stock better than the other crap factory 700 stocks, but it still doesn't cut it for me... i'm thinking McMillan or something similar!?!?

here, this is quoted from the Remington Law Enforcement website:

"Model 700P LTR (Light Tactical Rifle), chambered for .308 Win., .223 Rem., and .300 Rem. SA Ultra Mag.; features a slimmed down stock to improve portability and reduce weight. The flutes in the 20" LTR not only assist in weight reduction and heat dissipation, but are engineered to enhance barrel rigidity for pinpoint accuracy.

Like its big brother, the LTR stock is laid up around an aircraft-grade aluminum bedding block that runs up the entire length of the receiver. It has a textured, black, non-reflective finish and comes with sling swivel studs."
