Thinking of getting my soon to be six year old, a Henry Mini bolt as his first gun. Does anybody have any experience with them? Would you think it a good buy or I am better off with a different make all together.

I actually just read an article on this gun I found in one of the gun magazines I had lying around the house.

I looks to be the ideal rifle for youngsters. Its accurate, light (3.5Lbs) and very nicely compact. I belive they mentioned that it retailed for $170US. I think for that amount of $$$ you can't really go wrong.

Its a great gun for youngsters, especially beginners! I bought one at Bass Pro for my six year old son to shoot. I taught him safe firearm handling including how to prove the firearm safe. He shoots and reloads that bolt action rifle like a machine - his fingers are just the right size to handle and load the small .22lr cartridges. Now that he is quite proficient, I let him use the Ruger 10/22 - krinker plinker converted rifle with I had built with an Eotech holographic sight and a 50 round magazine and magazine loading device. Although he enjoys shooting the krinker plinker, he still likes the simplicity and weight of the Henry Mini-bolt. Perfect size and weight for my six year old. Easy to operate and very safe - one shot at a time.

They are a great little gun for little people. I picked this one over the Savage and chipmunk rifles. The contrasting sights are easy to explain to kids and really glow, enough that I tape the top of the rear sight to dull them a bit.

It is only 3.5lbs so I was thinking of taking it with me for hunting in the mountains just for grouse and ptarmigan.

I would recommend them.

can one of of you henry mini bolt owners measure the
disstance between the bolt face and the barrel when the bolt is opened of course. do you think the action is srong
enough for rechambering to 22 mag?????????
thanks

I bought one for my 6 and 8 year old. It's light and built for their size plus the fibre-optic sights are a great help. They just line up the 3 dots and bang. Definitely a good purchase.
