I am looking for a load for the .223 barrel I plan on getting soon for my encore. Have any of you found the "sweet" load and would you be willing to share the recipe? I want to tweak whatever I get to the best shooting round for my gun but I'm hoping that a good starter from you folks would be a good place to begin because it would have been tried and tested.

It's late now, but I will look up my data......50gr TNT and 1 1/2" @ 300yds. or 35gr V-Max 1/2" or less @50yds 4.5gr green dot. I had some loads with the 35gr V-Max that pushed it to 3800fps in my 26" Hvy Bbl, I'll look them up too( In the middle of a move so I may/may not find them)

A big factor is barrel twist.

My AR is coming with a 1:7 twist. I am planning on testing bullets in the 68 - 77 grain range. Around 24 grains of varget (give or take) should do the trick.

If you have a slower twist you will want to load for lighter (shorter) bullets.

My little Sako A1 like 55 gr vmax bullets over 25 gr of H335 ad a federal match small rifle primer. This load will first break clays at 300 metres and then break the 1/3 size pieces of the clays.

easy- 1/7 twist- 25 grains of 748, 70 grain speer, cci small rifle magnum, remmy casings

:)in my 1:12 m700

25.6 grs Benchmark
55 gr nosler BT
federal 205M
W-W case

3235 fps and very accurate. devestating on coyote and even a wolf :)

ok, I checked my data and this is what shoots in my .223Hvy BBL
35gr V-Max 26.5gr H4895 COL 2.098" Roughly 3700fps
50gr TNT 21.5gr H4198 COL 2.262" 3200fps Avg.
55gr SXSP 19.5gr H4198 No COL No Speed
70gr SP 24.5gr Varget No Speed (Launches Gophers Like No Other LOL)
Until I run out of BLC-2 that is what I am going to use, I have 30 or so left from the gopher shoot last weekend and out to 250 they were minute of gopher using 27gr BLC-2 and COL of 2.260" I'm guessing that the speed is 3000+fps.
All Cases are Federal (FC)
Primers are Federal as well.
