Would you shoot here?

I had some locations to scout out before tomorrow. I had a pretty good one found on googlemaps, but some loggers decided to blockage the FSR with their grappler and some logs about 2.9 miles from the location. So on my way back down the FSR, I came by a sign that said access road max 5 ton. Decided to check it out, and low and behold at least 600m distance in a valley! But its right next to power pylons. Would you shoot here? I'd basically place my steel by the red circle. The road that leads up to there (from backside), is from the prison (about 4km away) which is closed to public, and you can see anyone approaching from uptop (road snakes around).

Hm, yeah its an access road for the pylons. The only people coming here would be from BC hydro, they are new lines/pylons(not on google earth or imapsbc). So doubtful on a saturday afternoon, but not worth the risk unless I walk like 300m down the road and put some caution tape up and a sign to honk 4 times (risk mitigation I suppose?). The cool thing is that is a rock wall, so perfect natural berm. I'll scout out some other places as well. Looks like people have been shooting here though, someone left a table top on a stump. Also found/cleaned up some shotgun hulls. But some dinks burnt a camper, and a bunch of other garbage like 500m into the access road from the FSR.

are you in Mission? there are some places that you can see much farther than that, but you would have to shoot along the power lines. There are always wide clearings along the towers, and usually a small road that goes along side them for access.

I am a member at mission, the rifle range is closed til 5pm for a compeition this weekend. So I figured why not find some crownland to stretch the legs of my DTA and blow up some sureshot.

I wouldn't shoot there unless you can have 100% control over that road's potential traffic. The problem is, at that distance, your scope has relatively narrow peripheral vision and you can have vehicle approaching you would normally see by naked eye but won't see it in your scope. The standard rule is you are responsible for your bullet and as such, if in doubt, don't shoot. I have been prowling Mission region for some time and it is difficult to find a decent place where you can shoot safely for good distance and being able to access it at the same time, especially after the shooting restrictions were imposed west of Stave lake.

Your there. Why couldnt someone else be?

Seems like a bad place to shoot. What about putting the target at the shooting location and shooting from the target location?

Nope.

If the road wasn't there I'd consider, but that's way too dangerous with the road. You don't know if there are other OHV trails, hikers, etc using the road as an exit point, etc.

From where I'd be shooting is a hilltop, with a 100m drop off. I'd be more worried about someone driving down the FSR/ access road(where I'd shoot from). Also since the angle I'd be shooting up 150m I wouldn't shoot back towards the FSR (only 250m horizontally away). But if I place the target halfway up the 100m drop off it would be safe. Shooting right into a mountain side, my suv would be blocking the access road from the FSR.
The position I was taking the picture from has no access to the road. Mostly because it connects to a prison!! The road is entirely controlled by Corrections service of Canada, as the only way in now is from there. You used to be able to get access from the FSR but it looks like BC Hydro destroyed the road, as there's a ramp but the road just stops and is back to rocks/tree stumps.

Actually nevermind, that spot is impossible to get to by foot. There is about 150m in elevation difference, the only road snakes a extra 2km around. No way would I be carrying things that far, it also turns out the road is a dead end behind the tree's. The only way in would be from the right which is clear open viewing.

How about at rocks beside the pylon? 600m to the first one, next one would be around 1100 m away. There is a bed of rocks about 30m x 10m, and about 100m away from road (dead ends at pylon) on a downward slope. To the right is a drop off from 200m to 100m.

B.C. hydro has fire safety concerns on their right of way. I wouldn't be pushing this question too far.

Can you not find a clearcut where roads are clearly visible?
You never know where/when some family of quadders is going to pop out of the treeline.

I might consider putting my targets 30-40m off the road to the left, especially if it is a dead end. But I also live in a much less populated area. Down at the coast I don't think I would. But here the traffic level is a little different, in hunting season I wouldnt target shoot there, but in the middle of march? I would likely be the only guy there this month.
