Check out this SVT40 ammo pouch on e-bay. Apart from looking too new, this is a GREAT WW2 copy. Look at the ink stamp especially.

Counterfeiters in the field of military medal and badge collecting are almost making me stay away from bidding on auction sites. Copies can be so good that unless you are an expert you can't tell the difference. Mostly I'm buying from trusted individuals or companies that have a reputation to protect. Even such companies can be had from time to time.

When it comes to counterfeit knockoff goods, no one can outdo the People's Republic.

Okay, I'll bite: what's wrong with the thing?

Serious: I know almost nothing about Red Army stuff. If I needed such, likely I would have accepted it for the real thing. Worse, I might have recommended it to somebody else.

As to Chinese counterfeiting, I have seen museum-perfect copies of of 4th-Century BC Chinese coins, aged and all, sold for 10 bucks. These people really know their stuff.
.

It's because somewhere in China is every level of tech you every need, they make this pouch exactly the same way they did 60 years ago.

Maybe they can make some more svt-40 bayonets, no one else seems to have any. Not that I don't have one already, but they would bring in a fortune.

Maybe they should start pounding out SVT mags. Not too many real ones to be had.
Then they can start cranking out other hard-to-find mags.

The only thing wrong with it is that it's not real. Which is great if you want a repro. The seller is being honest that it's a reproduction, but once it changes hands a second time after some use... likely it will be mistaken for the real thing.

If mags, bayonets, and other parts are no longer available, is it bad to have a source for them? Better to use aftermarket products than none at all. Is it not?

Another reason I got out of collecting militaria. You don't just have to research the thing you are collecting, you have to research what the latest generation of fakes look like.

Real SVT 40 mags are solid steel and built like a tank. I doubt the recycled toxic industrial wastes used in Chicom knockoffs will stand up to the test.

Patent laws, copyrights etc. mean nothing to the Chinese. Honestly I don't know why we even trade with them. It's all a one way street with China.

In this scenario patent laws don't apply. The design for the mag pouches was done over 60 years ago, patent laws don't last forever.

Case in point, if you had the money you could start producing Lee-Metfords and selling them if you wanted.

I realize that. Just illustrates China's attitude towards business in general. Patents, copyrights, brand names or intellectual property mean nothing.
