i took my SKS to poco for the first time. crazy enough, i went for the 200 meter gong right from the start for s**ts and giggles( part of that due to trying to hit that same gong with my SW-29 44 mag . came so close. missed by less than half a foot and ran out of ammo). what surprised me was how accurate this surplus rifle is. the first couple shot hit high but straight where i had the sight set at 200. so i move it down to 100 mark . the 3rd ever shot i nailed the gong, hand rested on bench (rifle not rested). it was an awesome feeling . then i kept trying for the gong for the rest of the day. best one i did was 4/5 hand held. and by the end of the day, i was a little tire so the more i shot the worse i got.after the 4/5 i started filming for 5/5, i have this video of it hitting the gong twice (forstock rested).

Russian SKS rules!!

Hold onto that rifle! The majority of SKS's aren't known for that kind of precision (maybe that's just because it's a Russian and not a Chinese or Yugo..). Accurate, yes. Precise, definitely not.

Nice shooting, Rustspot. SKS's indeed are the best value in centerfire semi auto plinking class rifles.

What are the dimensions of that blue gong?

Is that blue gong there all the time? I was there couple times this month and saw only the yellow gongs, which blended too well with the background so could not shoot them.

yeah im sure it's capable of getting 5/5 with some sand bags. i dont know how big the gong is. the orange target to the left has the same width as an IPSC target. the gong is 2/3 of that so maybe about 8" diameter give or take couple inches. i'll shoot some video when ever i try for the gong from now on. i'll post it when i get 5/5

two 50 yard groupings, the 3 shot is 200 yards 3 on the paper and 2 slightly off. The other is a 100 yard grouping from an AR-180 B.

Ya that's a nice new gong Peter made for us but the real trick is tring to hit the little one to the right. Damm that angled one is hard to do. Good shooten partner!:D

Hey Satain and rustspot,

What say we have an informal SKS gong shooting competition at the POCO range? I have two other friends who'd be interested. There'd be other guys in this forum for sure.

I can hardly see anything at that distance but who cares?

Whaddayahink?

Sounds awsome!
Count me in. The two best night's are tuesday & thursday cuz no one is barely there. Also we should have a spoter with some glass to count hitz. I think curtorn was thinking about this too.

If I do my part both of my Chinese SKSs have no problem delivering their pill on a gong all the way out to 300 meters.

i also have an Chinese made SKS. with a X6 scope. but im not too impressed with it's accuracy. with the scope, i got 3/5 to 4/5 all day at that same gong. i was expecting 5/5 with a scope when im shooting 2/5 to 4/5s with iron.

Calum, you are hereby banned from the POCO SKS Gong Shoot:dancingbanana:

You may visit, coach, kibitz, tell war stories, score, spot.

Seriously, come join and show us a thing or two about long distance SKS style.
