Just got my rebuild rifle back from wolverine(the spartan parts kit build) and noticed just how loose the lower Handguard is,is this a common problem with these? My 858 and 2003 are tight as all hell to get off and on.

Yup. Just got mine too. Very loose and rattly. I shimmed the front with a bit of thin cork drawer liner that I had bought from CanTire. Nice and tight now.

Any problems removing the gas piston?

That’s how mine was too. Immediately went back to KD for repair. Their “fix” was to grind the receiver end of the piston rod until it clears.

Not impressed.

It’s a head space issue, either they pressed the barrel in to far by accident or their receivers are not made to the same specs as the CZ receivers.

Gotta say for the cost of this thing I’m pretty pissed off

I’m a bit worried to fire it. I don’t see any sign of them being test fired at KD...

No it doesn’t look like it was test fired.

I shot Ryan at wolverine an email and he’s looking into it,but he told me it may be a little while due to shot show happening.

Im not sure on the exact specs for head space,or have anything to measure it by.i might drop by my local shop and see if I can drop some go/no go gauges in to see how it fits up

Ryan is the one I dealt with too. I think I’ll hold off firing until this plays out.

If you want some cork for the guard just shoot me a pm with your address. I have tons of it.

Thanks,i placed some rubber between the metal and wood and seems to have done the job nicely.

Another thing I noticed was my front sight is pushed almost all the way to the right, and now has red paint marker on it,my original parts kit didn’t have either of those things done,so I’m not sure what’s going on there

It's called bait and switch. I think the CSA product is better made from the examples I have seen.

I’ve had my problems with the CSA rifles, and I’m hoping this is a mistake that Kodiak will rectify, but otherwise they are never going to get any more business from me.

Doesn’t look like this is a isolated issue either since I was told several people who had builds done are experiencing similar issues.
I would have done the build myself if I had know this would be the end result

I am not sure what the problem is but I can assure you that between KD and WS we will take care of it. Please send an e-mail to John@wolverinesupplies.com with all the details and I will look into this myself. Complaining on a public forum is normally the last place to go if you are not getting satisfaction, but I do sympathize with your position.

I’m fully confident wolverine will do everything in their power,as they always have done.

You guys are literally the only retailer I have 100% confidence in all things related to this industry.

I’m just a little suprised honestly at Kodiak

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Sometimes there are problems, this can happen with any manufacture, don't make a judgment because of the problem, make your judgment on how the problem is resolved. I can assure you we look after all our customers. Like I said please send me an e-mail with all the details so I can cross reference what is happening and then we can work on a solution. E-mail to: John@wolverinesupplies.com Thanks for your understanding.

Kodiak Defence

I’m Chad from Kodiak, I’d like to apologize for any issue anyone is having, and I’d like to correct them.

Grinding the Piston was never a fix we have or will perform.
Original piston manufacturer (surplus parts) had ground a out of round champher on the end of some of the pistons. This can prevent the piston from tipping up high enough to clear the gasblock.
My fix is to open the “receivers figure 8 shaped” piston clearance hole slightly downward to allow more tilt to remove the piston. There are just a few of the receivers piston holes had been machined out of spec. due to cutter deflection that slipped through QC.

The headspace is correct to our specifications, and every firearm we produce has at least 3 test rounds before it gets cleaned, packaged and shipped.

I have shims available to take up the front lower handguard looseness/sloppiness. Contact me through email and I’ll get you taken care of. chad@kodiakdefence.com

Big thanks to John at Wolverine for taking the time to investigate the piston fit problem. I'm certain he has identified the issue and has a simple fix for it. Anyone with that problem rest assured it isn't a biggie.
