From the sounds of it the range has just been shut down by the county.

Freaking lame.

Just got an email about it....no explanation given. Protest at the county office anyone? We can wear all our 3-gun gear (minus firearms of course) while we're at it.

IMPORTANT - SGGC Range Closure

As members of SGGC have heard tonight the range has been issued a stop order by the county of parkland.

To my understanding this means that the range is closed immediately and there will be no discharge of firearms at the range.

I am not currently aware of the reason for the order or its duration.

I am confident that the Board of SGGC is doing everything that they can to rectify the situation and to have the range opened for all the members and groups that enjoy the facilities.

As soon as I have more information I will pass it on.

For WRAS the means that unless a miracle happens in the next few days the match on the 12th is cancelled. I would hope that the range is open in time for the match on the 19th, but I am not holding my breath. I am hoping that we will be able to have the 2 day match in August.

At the advice of a lawyer previously I would recommend that no action be taken with the county and no contact be made with any county representatives until more information is available. To paraphrase, there is no good to come from individuals talking to them now.

I agree. However we are always our own worst enemy in such situations.

Totally ####ty to hear, guys.

As Tinkerbell mentioned, we've got a match here Saturday. I've got 39 out a planned 45 spots filled, but I'll take any and all refugees from your match who wants to shoot here.

Steve

Sorry to hear that guys, I was looking forward to the 19th. If you guys want to come out to a match that weekend, we rescheduled ours (CHAS) to the 20th so it wouldn't conflict. Sam pm email inbound.

I'll be at the CHAS one on the Sunday if SGGC is still closed for the WRAS match on Saturday. Or shoot both if SGGC is miraculously open by next weekend.....

Heads up for all the disappointed WRAS 3-gunners, CHAS is gearing up our match on Sunday the 20th to run 4 stages to accommodate an influx of you guys. Come out and we will make sure you still get a match in next weekend. (the 20th) All the gun clubs need to stand together when this bulls$#*t happens and there is no way you guys wont have a place to shoot.

Set up will be starting at 08:30 and we will have our range brief and squadding at 10:30 to make sure first rounds are downrange at 11:00 (that's as early as we can go on Sundays). Hope to see you guys out there.

For this match, due to you fellas getting screwed by Parkland, CHAS 3-Gun will not require you to pay for the membership fee for the shoot. If you are not a CHAS (range) member, the guest fee $20 will apply and our regular match fee of $10. If you enjoy what we do, please feel free to join up. You will likely recognize me as I belong to both CHAS and WRAS.

See you out there!
Shane

another note, BTSA is running a steel Challenge match this weekend at the BTSA range just west of Calgary. If you guys are interested in attending.

Shane,

Thank you guys very much for stepping up.
To any of the WRAS people or anyone who is interested in three gun I suggest that you head out and check out this match.
Several of us have shot at CHAS and had a blast. The rules are different and you get to expand you mind. They have some really cool props and some fun and interesting stages.

Thanks

Man, feel the luv.

I read on outdoorsmen forum that their permits just expired and SGGC are appealing.

Doesn`t seem as shady as everyone thinks it is.

Any guys going down to this one in Calgary? Peace River turns into a weekend commitment that I can't do on short notice, but maybe I can swing this. I will hit the CHAS shoot next week, I think.

What's BTSA?

Buffalo Target Shooters Association. It's the pistol club associated with the APRA range west of Calgary. They hold IPSC, IDPA and Steel Challenge shoots as well as many other events on other parts of the range.

I found the info. I had checked it out once before it turns out. I tried the email address in the schedule but it didn't work. I sent an inquiry to see if there is room to their info@btsa.ca email.

I'll post a new thread and see if someone involved with the match can let me know.

Gotta get out shooting somewhere! Steel Challenge would be fun too

Thanks!

Actually, the new operating permit that chas got from the county allows for shooting to start at 10am v 11am. Just so you know.
We also have a service rifle match this coming weekend on the 13th if any of the Spruce Grove guys want to some out to that.

Sorry about that Scott but you are incorrect. It was moved from 12pm to 11am. We are currently planning the new sign to go up at the gate. Sunday will start at 11am. Maybe you should come be a director on the executive, it would keep you in the loop better:stirthepot2:

Your favourite,
