Hello All,

I just want to remind everyone of the Steel Match that we are having on May 10, 11th. All the details and the sign up sheet are on the website at

www.wrasaalberta.com

Saturday
Registration starts at 0800 closes at 0930, shooting starts at 10:00

Sunday
Registration starts at 0900 closes at 1030, shooting starts at 11:00

Competitors can shoot up to three firearms for the match. 22 Rifles are allowed. You will want to have at least 4 magazines for your firearm and preferably five, otherwise the match will slow down and people will miss out.

The match is open both days, competitors can shoot on one or both days. If you are shooting three guns you will need to shoot both days.

Please preregister for the match as it will be capped at 80 competitors and 120 guns

Thanks,
Sam

A Steel Challenge event is traditionally 8 stages each having 5 targets. The stage layout (target size, distance, stop plate location) is predetermined and consistent.
You shoot each stage 5 times back to back (hence the need for 5 magazines). Your best 4 times count.
5 x 5 = 25 rounds minimum per stage x 8 stages = 200 rounds minimum per event/gun. Even the best will miss a few plates as they try to go faster, so bring some extra rounds.

I've never participated in a steel challenge match before. I got a couple of questions.
Do you get to pick the day you want to shoot for preregistering ?
(can't see a spot for this on the Entry Form)
Can we also pay on site during the day of the match?
Thank you.

You guys can show up to shoot either day as long as you are there for registration on that particular day.
If you are planning on shooting more than one gun I would suggest shooting on Saturday, or one gun per day.
You can pay at the match if required, please indicate this on your entry from when you send it in.

How does it work with multiple guns. You can run the course multiple times?

To shoot multiple guns, you run the course multiple times with the separate guns and gear.

The steel matches are en excellent way to practice and improve pistol skills for all level of shooters. You get to practice at least 40 draws from the holster and over two hundred target transitions each match you shoot. If you want a way to increase the speed of your first shot on target, and transition times, steel is the way to do it.

and if you just like to shoot, it's a blast to hear the ringing steel all the time as well.

Holsters are handy. If you have limited experience from a holster you can start holding the gun pointed at a stake in the ground about 12 ft ahead. This is how all the .22 start as well.
A proper holster makes it easy to transport the gun between stages, but if not we can use your case or shooting bag instead.

I shot steel for the first time with my .22 at last year's match. If you're hemming and hawing over going, you should just go for it! It's tons of fun and you can pick up great tips from friendly folks.

I haven't paid the WRAS membership fee for the year. Should I send it EMT with the steel challenge fee and registration, or just bring cash in hand on Saturday?

Have you guys thought about holding more than one steel challenge per year? I'm missing this one cause I promised my wife a weekend out of town for Mother's Day and booked tickets months ago :bangHead:

We are holding another one in October of this year. One of the issues is how busy that range is this year.

We might be able to squeeze in a one day Sunday match at some point or maybe even a Saturday but would need someone to be match director, coordinate stats......, as the shooting season is pretty full already.
