Had something unusual happen to me the other day. I have up until now shot 55 gr Hornady SP in my 22-250, which generally gets pointed at coyotes trying to make a breakfast feast of the kitty cat and chicken population around the farm. The 55 sp's are < MOA accurate and have contributed to a lot of dead coyotes, about 25% of which have been bang-flops. But, for s**** & giggles I decided to try the 55 gr V-Max for my next box of coyote bullets.
Long story short, I went into WS in Lethbridge, asked for 55 gr V-Max, was handed a box boldly labelled V-Max and headed home with my prize. Once home, I opened the box and discovered what looked like my trusty lead tipped 55 gr Soft Points inside. I checked the label more carefully and found 55 gr SPSX printed just below the V-Max label. The 55 gr SPSX is Hornadys soft point designed for 222 velocities, having a thinner jacket than the regular sp.
Next time I was in the city WS gladly exchanged them. I did get a bit of a line from the clerk about, "Ya, all Hornady varmint bullets are called V-Max now" when I suggested that the labelling on the box was wrong.
Anybody else ever hear of or see this? (Hornady miss-labelling, not WS clerk miss-informing, which is pretty well documented already
) I'm thinking with the huge component shortage going on lately that Hornady just had a hiccup. I'd suggest a good double check of what you’re buying for the next while when it comes to small calibre Hornady bullets.
