Wrong reason to get a restricted license? You tell me!

Hey guys, my first post in the Pistols forum. :) I've long considered getting my restricted, joining a local indoor club to help with cabin fever over winter, but have always talked myself out of it for time..or money reasons. These days, I find myself thinking about it more, partially because of my interest in this pistol..a Ruger 22/45 Lite. http://www.ruger.com/products/2245Lite/models.html

I've had the opportunity to shoot 9mm (on several occasions), .40, .45 and .22lr pistols and for some reason, it's the 22s that interest me more. I've shot Mark III pistols before, but seem to favor the 45-like geometry of the 22/45. IS a little pea shooter like the 22/45 "worth" the trouble of getting into pistols? Are there any dedicated .22lr guys on here? Anybody HAVE a 22/45 Lite? 22/45 Target would be my second choice. http://www.ruger.com/products/2245Target/models.html
 
Hell yes, a .22 is a good reason to get your RPAL. I love rimfires, great accuracy, excellent practice/training cartridge and you can shoot all day for less than a case of beer. I have a 22/45 (the same as the target model you linked to, but without the removable grip panels) and it is a great pistol, stupid accurate, reliable and a great value.

Why wouldn't shooting .22 pistols a good reason for you to get RPAL?? As long as you enjoy shooting .22 there is no better reason for getting a RPAL! I'd say GO FOR IT! The Lite sure looks good for a little .22
 
A .22 is the best way to learn to shoot handguns as well. Stops you from developing a flinch.
 
Thanks for the replies guys, very warm welcome from the pistol crowd on CGN! :) I have a great circle of friends..but take some flak for picking a .22WMR when they use .223.....a .223 when they use .243/.270. I mentioned the 22/45 to my buddy who owns a CZ75 and a Glock, and took heat for that too! lol Well, I think I'll start with the restricted (I can afford that) and then take it from there.

I just got the Ruger 22/45 model 10145...Looking forward to shooting it...I alway's encourage anyone getting the P.A.L to go for the RPAL..Might as well,when you are going through the hoop's to get the PAL anyway...
 
Why do you care what others think?? If you enjoy shooting a rimfire..shoot them. My rimfires are the most expensive and have the best glass cause I shoot them the most. I put hundreds of rounds through my Sako every week...I love it.

I went one step further and purchased this single shot 22 LR match pistol.
A Hammerli Model 150. I really don't know which is my current favorite, one of my two ROAs, or this Swiss handgun.
BTW, I have two other rimfire semi-autos and one revolver as well.
 
You want it? Get it! What more reason do you need? Even when you have other pistols, .22s make for lots of inexpensive additional trigger time to refine your fundamentals.
 
i f'n love my .22 Ruger SP101 revolver. Who would scoff at someone else's shooting preferences???!!!! Tell those rimfire nay-sayers to stuff it. Guess who has money left for the buy the post range beer special at the pub???!!!
 
I learned to shoot pistols with an old Ruger MkII. Its always nice to bring the .22 out to the range. And you learn basic trigger control and can tweak your overall technique for minimal cash when starting out.

I say don't buy a .22..................Buy two of them.
