WST for 45 acp

I use WST for 45ACP. Haven't tried the lighter bullets. I've had good success with 230gr RN copper wash and 230gr lead RN. I use 4.0 grains.

According to Charles petty the Army marksmanship training unit uses 200 grain Hensley @ Gibbs bullet with WST. That gives them the best groups at 50 yards.

I am using 4.7 grains of WST with a 200 gr. lead cast SWC for action shooting and it works quite well for me.

Thanks guys,
I am trying 4.2 grains with the Hornady 185 JSWC. I'll let you know how it goes. In the reloading data I have it mentions OAL of 1.275 with any bullet size using WST. Anyone else see this? Anyone else seat at a different depth?

Thanks
Tim

No good. Not one of the 20 185 gr. Hornady JSWC I loaded fed properly. Looks like my Para doesn't like SWC. Back to 230 gr. round nose. Anyone else have similar issues?

What exactly does your Para do? My Para now eats anything that I feed it. It wasn't always that way. It would even jamb on factory 230 gr ball. Take a close look at the slide lock, the part that contacts the mag when the mag is empty. I found on mine that the bottom was sharp enough that it would snag the bullet. It would even snag a factory copper clad round nose 230 gr bullet. I touched it up a bit with a file and now that part is solved. Just a bit at a time and test fire it. Also, if you are handloading, check your crimp. If it isn't proper, you will have feeding problems. Some folk go with the "factory crimp" die. Check the over all length of the bullet, it really needs to be close to book values. I use the info in the Lee book and it works well for me. I use Titegroup and it seems to work well.

Thanks Odinson, I'll take a look at the slide lock. It jammed about half way while feeding the round. I am using the LEE facory crimp die. My Para fed all my 230 gr. copper plated rounds no problems. In all the data I could find for WST powder it said to seat to max. I set them to 1.270 and measured each one. I'll try another powder with a different seating depth and see what happens. In the Hodgdon info all other powders for the 185 JSWC have an OAL of 1.195. I'll try that.
