WW II Sniper Rifle

I always thought that the US used a Springfield 1903 rifle/w scope as their sniper rifle. Is this true? What did the US use as a sniper rifle for its troops in WWII??

Remember the movie Saving Private Ryan? Our own Canadian born actor (can't remeber his name) played the part of that Awsome American sniper using the 1903 springy. If you did'nt see that movie, I would suggest renting it now and check it out. HIS ENGAGEMENT SCENES ARE SOME OF THE COOLEST OUT THERE IN MOVIE LAND....AND THAT IS NO:bsFlag:

The actor's name is Barry Pepper. He was also in " The Green Mile " with Tom Hanks , and he was in " Flag of Our Fathers". One more bit of trivia, the scene in " Saving Private Ryan" where he shoots the German sniper through the scope, that actorplaying the German sniper was the guy who played "Webster" in " Band of Brothers". Both were filmed at the same time in England and many actors were in both ! Watch the scene in " Ryan" where they're going through the dog tags and start cracking jokes, about 7 or 8 guys from "BoB", walk by and give them looks of disgust !

That's really interesting! What surprised me the most about the actors in BoB, was how many were British and used American accents during the series. I never noticed any of them in Saving Private Ryan tho. Very cool.
