Those look hand coloured. The shades are wrong and they have only coloured some objects.

this puts a whole new perceptive on looking at WWII photos. no real sense of feel with the B&W

The rifles are SVT-38s. These were issued with a longer bayonet than the SVT-40.

Not to steal anyone's thread but I saw these colour photos from WWII in Germany. Alot of them have Hilter in them. Thought some might appreciate them if they haven't seen these(and by appreciate I mean the historical value of the photos not the attrocities of nazi germany)

Between 1936 and 1945, German photographer Hugo Jaeger was granted unprecedented access to Adolf Hitler, traveling and chronicling, in color, the Fuhrer and his confidants at small gatherings, public events, and, quite often, in private moments. These are amazing.

Sounds like he was an aggressive fighter pilot. According to Yakovlev Aces of World War 2, (by George Mellinger) Baranov was killed on January 17th, 1943, during a flying demonstration. It was intended to prove that he was combat-worthy having previously sustained injuries in an August, 1942, ramming attack on a German Bf109 fighter.

As the enemy encounter is described, Baranov ran out of ammo after shooting down two Bf109's and a Ju 87 during a sortie. He then rammed a third Bf 109, destroying it. Baranov survived by parachuting to safety, although he was injured in the process.
