Looking to get the opinions of members knowledgeable on RAF WW2 era aircraft compasses.
I've an example of a P11 (small aircraft compass), in a P11 transit case. The transit case, inside lid is painted and shows no maintenance markings. The outer bowl/shell of the compass is very nicely painted and shows no scratched markings (which usually corresponded with a maintenance stamp on the case lid...). The bowl also has the Air Ministry (AM) brass plaque painted over. The only marking on the bottom of the bowl/shell is B/R/4 (although the 4 is rather faint). The compass, when received, was also drained of alcohol as is common.
I'm of the opinion that this compass is either a refurbished example (wartime or post-war), or never saw service.
Can anyone comment on the markings, or lack thereof?
What's the going rate for P11s these days? - when purchased more than five years ago I recall the going rate was nearly $400.
