Got this stuff from an elderly neighbor, but can't seem to find much about it, other than the obvious ... 9mm, 1939 date. I did find a bit out about the third box, it has green-lacquered cases and black-colored slugs that are apparently lead coated with a metal core.

Any other info anyone can supply would be appreciated. Is this stuff rare, or should I just load it up in my BHP and have fun with it? The rounds and the boxes are in excellent condition, clean with no sign of corrosion at all.

Thanks ... DT

Well I wouldn't say it is "rare" but a bit of a collector's item. I think I have seen sealed boxes sell for about $25, and opened full boxes sell for about $20.

I would buy it, but I don't know if you're allowed to ship ammo...

Thanks guys! They go into the "keeper" box with the rest of my historically interesting goodies.

Do you happen to know anywhere I could look to find more info on these? I'm assuming the alphabet soup on the box is manufacturer, place of origin, lot numbers etc , and it would be cool to know what it means .... :)

Just a warning for you, they are most likely corrosive.

Another as well, I had a case of ex german 9mm that was in black, laquered steel cases and had black (looked blued) projectiles.

This was 35 years ago by the way. I blew up a really nice P38 with the first round fired. Needless to say, I was a little miffed. But 95% p38 pistols could be had for $50 in those days. Still, I liked that pistol.

Needless to say I didn't shoot the ammo in anything for years. I finally came accross a fellow with an MP40 and a Sten. He was really happy to find that ammo as it was supposedly loaded HOT on purpose for submachineguns. He fired it all off without a hitch. He also mentioned that he had personally seen several captured handguns damaged from this ammo dureing the war.

The boxes in your pics are made to contain 16 rounds each. That would be two full clips for a P08 or a P38 and are also labled for pistols. The stuff I had was in 32 round boxes, without lables other than round count.

I agree, it is collectable, especially for a person with a WWII P08 or P38, for display purposes.

Thanks for the links Dosing, and thanks for the other input guys!

I actually found a listing for the "pistolpatronen 08 m.E", the iron cored lacquered case rounds with the black bullets ... the American BATF lists them as "armor-piercing pistol rounds" ....

DT,

A nice find !! As some members mentionned these are now considered collectibles...I do have a few boxes of these as I've been into German pistols for a while...Look like these ??

DSCN9623.jpg

Sintered iron 92gr bullet at 1400fps....The so called ``Schmeisser load``...Very powerfull, penetrative & high pressure loading. These can crack a pistol's slide (Beretta 92 anyone ??) and shooting these is NOT recommended !! I shot a few (read that 3-4 rds) a few years ago while doing some ballistics testings & results were interesting...But I would not risk ruining a good pistol...

Most WWII participants using SMGs had some kind of similar loading. Our own ``Sten load`` was the DI 43 & 44 9mm rounds as produced by Dominion Industries. Same caracteristics....but less collectibles as more common.

Hope this adds a bit of usefull info, Mk
