I have this old Nazi flag that was given to me by my father. I dont know anything about it and I cant find this particular flag any where online.
What I want to know is: Is it real? Is it rare? Which Unit is it from? And of course, whats it worth? Flag is made of heavy cotton and not nylon.

Mods: Im not sure if this is the right forum to post this in, but the forum description does say:"Old STUFF buried in the backyard since WW1 and WW2" and Im pretty sure this qualifies as stuff. LOL

Well, Scutzstaffel is SS... so it definitely has something to do with them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schutzstaffel

To me, this kind of looks like some sort of a vehicle flag, perhaps naval. The contrasting colors and motifs indicate that it was probably used to convey rank or some sort of status at a distance. A naval marker flag maybe?

Very interesting item, whatever it is.

If the flag is 60x90 inches in size it is a repro all the way. If it is 60x90 centimetres it may be original. Schutzstaffel is indeed the SS. Maybe a flag guru will be along to comment.

Post it on the Wehrmacht Awards Forum, (WAF) for advice as to real or repro. There were repro flags made in the 70's.

Looks like a Soviet Navy Flag with German Insignia Printed on.
If*you look at first stamp there is number 58 in it printed with proper Gothic Lettering, however all other numbers are printed with modern numbers not used by the Germans at the time.
If the flag came into your family by the way of Poland, Eastern Europe or Israel , it is certainly a repro, they specialized in making German WW2 memorabilia in the 80s and 90s

I'm not an expert in any way, you would really need an opinion of an expert in this era or would have to see a real flag to compare

It is a "Chief of an SS Main Office" Pennant.

In German, an "SS-Hauptamtschef"

Usually attached to a staff car.

Not 100% sure, but it does look fake IMHO...

The Germans and others have been making repros since 1945.... ;)

You may be right, however, the eagle's head, the wing tips, the bottom of the wreath, and the eagle's legs are different.

That may be just differences from being made by different makers though. It would also help if the picture was in color. Some other branches of the SS had similiar banners, but with different colors.
