X-BOLT Browning & MONARCH III

Well here is what I can tell you from my experience, the x-bolt is a great gun I have one in .223 and love it. Shoots great, handles nice, trigger is good, and I love the short bolt turn. There are others in the same price range as Im sure others will point out, but if thats the one you like you wont be dissapointed. Before you buy go check one out you might like it but it might not be the right fit for you. As for the scope I also own that very same one, and think its great. The image on mine is very clear and the eye relife stays constant. With that setup you should be good to go for many years.

I wouldnt touch anything that says browing on it with a 10 ft pole. For that money i would look past the wood stock and buy a rem 700 CDL in stainless fluted. I personally run high end customs... 6K plus scoped. But i have put a few of my regular hunter friends into this very rifle in 7rem mag. With $20 a box blue cheap federal they pile bullets into 1 inch groups at 400 yards. The new Xbolts are shooting good but they are the worst built rifle on the market and If you get a lemon from browning and need costomer support, There gonna tell you to F**k Off ! i had this happen myself with an old A bolt. Also they will cram these rifles down your throat at the store because every time the individual salesman sells a 10th rifle, browning gives him a free one. Ive had new weatherbys , brownings , remingtons, and winchesters. There is nothing left in my cabinet that dosnt say remington. For the money these CDL's are not beatable. reload for them and the sky is the limit. If you can handle a few extra bucks and another pound of eXtra weight I would go to the XCR tactical in 300 win mag if you want that cartiridge, or a sendero. I also would not over look the 7 rem mag if you want a 300. The 7 rem has %30 less recoil and with a high BC bullet will slay the 300 at long range. The only advantage a 300 has over a 7rem is a wider veriety of bullet wieght. however berger is making a 180 for the 7rem now,I shoot them. The browning was the worst rifle ive ever owned by far ! ive had a lot of friends buy them and no longer own any of them due to accuracy problems.

When i built my first long range custom i looked at 1000 builds online. If they were not custom actions they were remingtons. I saw a hand full of weatherbys and literaly 1 browning. Theres a reason for that.. there such a terribly built gun, gunsmiths dont even want to work on them.

I dont know anything about that scope, thats up to you. I would put a leupold on a regular hunting rifle VX1 to VX3 would surfice. im partial, I run Night Force. I dont know if thats realistic for you. There are lots of reasonably priced scopes out there right now around that price that will do just fine for you. That scope might be one. I would just make sure wich ever one you get, make sure it has life time warranty. Being that your gonna be out in the elements, If you drop it or it leaks 6 months down the road and you try and take it back after you spent $500and there response is that they flip you the finger " Like browning did to me after spending a grand " That would suck ! Even a nice bushnell would be a good choice. Theyve really stepped it up the last 5 years. A 4200 or 6500 elite are actually quite nice and there warrenty is solid. if you can aford one a VX3 4.5-14 with boon and crockett and front focal AO is my choice, i have 2. They are close to $1000 bucks with tax though.

What ever choice you make i wish you good luck and happy hunting ! Oh and welcome to CGN !

I really like my x-bolt its accurate and it handle real good you can't go wrong with them imo.Don't know much about the monarch but I heard good thing about them.

Ignore the armchair experts, the x-bolt is an excellent rifle. As long as it fits you well, and you like it, it doesn't really matter what any of us think, and the X-Bolt is a good shooter.

Wow! Really??? I'm impressed! Every one will do that? Really??

To the OP. Such statements remove all credibility from the post. Brownings are, in my experience, quite decent rifles that will, on average, shoot with any other brand. If you like them, ignore this guy's silly rant, and get one. You will find it works just fine.

srry this my first day on the hunting forum. Just trying to help a guy out. You should see all the brownings out in the field with the U.S marines. And brownings are end to end at the bench rest shoots. Go on the precision forums and check out all the guys raving about there brownings. Better yet phone Alberta Tactical, or any of the top gunsmiths in the country and ask them what they think about browning actions for a custom build. You will not see a single browning at an F class bechrest shoot ! lol

Gabriel , go to the front page of this web site and start phoning gun smiths. you can talk to some real experts there. " Not an arm chair like me " lol ,As far as factory goes ... there gonna say " Sako or Remington "

Again good luck ! Love offending browning lovers !

if you like the fit of the browning go for it. i'm sure you would be happy with the package. looked after it will last a lifetime and probably be trouble free. i own rems, wins, tikka's and one browning. the browning holds its own after a trigger spring and adjustment. my rems and wins all needed trigger work. only the tikka's were good from the box. and yes rems make good customs as there easy to work on and true the action. my custom rems are a cut above a browning but the stock ones won't outshoot a browning. all said buy the browning package if you like its as good as most better than some.

Who is pilot 2001............"1 inch groups at 400 yards" ...........does he expect us to take him seriously ???

Perhaps he thinks one shot is a group ???

This one actually makes it easier for me to "weed out" the ones to ignore. There is nothing wrong with Remington, excellent rifles, but if that is the ONLY rifle he will own, he is missing out on a lot. There are MANY brands out there much better than those as well. Who said we have to stick with North American rifles! I would like to own one of all makes and I'm working on it! Now if I could only afford a Blaser, Dakota or custom Cooper this year.....

Keep in mind this is a HUNTING RIFLE. Not a custom built BENCHREST rifle. Know the difference and respect it. For hunting the X-Bolt will do fine. My preference is towards savage but I know more people with the X-bolt than the savage and they are all happy with them. I'm also happy with my savage.

I would really appreciate some cons at the guns that you guys listed and at the gun that i have in subject, pros are so many, any big manufacturer usually have good guns ...
I like the x-bolt, but in my personal opinion, when i see that plastic magazine i could not think at bb guns, i dunno but using plastic on a rifle ....
another rifle that i was looking at was the Remi CDL
http://www.cabelas.ca/index.cfm?pageID=71&&section=1187&section2=1724&section3=1952&ID=4731
the only con that i can think on this one is the wood stock ... im fairly new to alberta's climate but i assume that it affects the gun itself.

Dont let the plastic mag scare you away. The Rugar 10/22 has been using them for a long time I have seen many of them 30 years old and they still work fine. The new polymer materials that things are made of are great, look at a pelican case same kind of stuff those x-bolt mags are. On a plus side the mag will never rust after being in the rain.

One of the reasons you don't see too many custom Browning A-Bolts or X-Bolts is because most of the add-on parts are made for Remington 700's, and now, Savage due to numbers and popularity. Manufacturers go with what sells the most. There are some niche producers, but they are few and far between.
Don't forget, the A-Bolt uses a detachable mag and these hinder long, heavy bullets. The Remington is available in ADL, BDL, CDL and DBM, so most of their "custom" options are covered.
Personally, I like the X-Bolt, as well as the Monarch line of Nikons. Only one way to find out if it will shoot a 1" group at 400 yards...

I bought an 7mm stainless x-bolt brant new last year. I walked into Eli's in Simcoe with a friend of mine who I had talked into buying a new scope. While he was picking out his scope I looked a the X-bolt that they had packaged with a Monarch 2.5 x10. I threw it up to my sholder, put iton the counter and told them I'd take it while pulling out my Visa card. It may have been a spur of the moment purchase, but i have been very happy with it ever since. It will be at the range with me this afternoon and leaving for Lake Nipigon Thursday.
