this hunting season, i shot. reloaded, the spent casing hit the floor, pushed bolt back in, went for a follow up shot and CLICK.. nothing happened. i waited 3 seconds didnt want a hangfire. pulled the bolt back and noticed it didnt feed another round.

i am 99% sure this is user error. in an attempt to be silent, i may not have pulled the bolt back far enough. Is this a common problem and may not be my fault ? or i just have to remember to pull it back far enough.

Have you tried again or just tossed the rifle in the safe? Try cycling it a bunch of times. Lots of issues could of happened. ... didnt cycle bolt far enough, mag not seated properly, tip of bullet caught under feedramp, loaded round hung up in magazine,...

Had that happen with my x bolt once. The cartridge was not seated properly in the magazine - there's just a little bit of extra room in there which allows thw cartidge to slide a little forward or backward. If it is slid forward so that the bullet tip is touching the magazine side, then it can be just forward enough for the tip to catch on the loading window and not feed up into the chamber. To avoid this, whenever i load the magazine, i then give the magazine a good solid thump in the palm of my other hand so that all the cartridges are definitely slid down and have the bottom of the casing firmly against the magazine side. Clear as mud?

What was the temperature when the FTE happened?

I've had the mags fail due to cold weather. The mags wouldn't allow the cartridges to advance.

Have had no problems ever with any x bolts I have owned. Currently with a 7-08 compact.

I even did the trigger spring upgrade on the current model I have, and will do that on any future x bolts I will own. Just a way smoother trigger. M-carbo spring upgrade kit.

On bolt rifles, the mag not being in all the way can cause this, as can short-cycling the bolt. A dirty mag, or a burr in it, etc etc.
