Hey all, I'm looking to get some feedback/opinions on the above rifles.

I want to buy a stainless synthetic hunting rifle and these all seem to be in my price range($1000ish). I understand all are quite accurate.

I've been leaning towards the X-Bolt stainless Stalker, but now am considering the Weatherbys and Tikkas too because I can't find the X-Bolt S/S in 7mm Rem Mag anywhere. I don't really care for the stock on the Tikka or that the trigger guard is plastic, but it is light, has a smooth action, and is known for accuracy. I really know nothing about the Weatherby, but the Sub-MOA and S/S Vanguard seem like nice rifles too(though I've never had the opportunity to handle either).

Anyway, there it is, if anyone has any experience with any(or all) of these, or reasons to prefer one over the others, please feel free to throw in your $.02

Thanks

The Tikka T3's, regardless of accuracy, leave me cold.
The Weatherby Vanguards are built by Howa of Japan, and I can speak from personal experience that they are accurate, solid rifles.
The X-Bolt is a big step up from the A-Bolt [trigger and magazine system on A-Bolts suck, IMHO]
I think a sub-moa Vanguard would fill the bill quite nicely! Eagleye.

The Tikka feels like a Tonka, as for the weatherby and the browning both quility rifles I've owned both and I'd have to say with the new stock on the x-bolt the recoil is very managible and the medallion series uses beautiful wood BUT I'm a weatherby man so I'd go with the Vanguard sub- moa :)

Go and feel a TC Icon they are sub-moa out of the box with factory ammo, test target supplied with it and the finish is beautiful... JP.

Thanks for the responses so far everyone. Seems that the Weatherby rifles are well regarded in these parts. The Sub-MOA is becoming more appealing, I'll have to try to find one locally that I can handle. Same for the TC. Keep the input coming :)

Well I don't own a x-bolt but have handled them. And I do own Tikkas and a Weatherby Vanguard Sub MOA. The Weatherby has the least smooth bolt, longest bolt lift and worst trigger. It does however shoot very well. The Tikkas I own all shoot very well and have extremely smooth bolts and great trigger, but prefer the laminate stock on them. All the x-bolts I know of also shoot very well and have great bolts and triggers. I have only heard the some say the blueing is a little thin on them.

my 2 cents

I also like weatherby rifles, my fav being a accumark in 257 why. If you are taking a grand though I'd skip all of the ones you mentioned and buy a sendero.

I've had all of them. The Tikka has been the best and most consistent performer of them all. I wasn't very impressed with the Vanguard and it needed work. The X-bolt was a great rifle (that I traded for a pistol!). I wouldn't trade Tikka no way, no how!

Decisions, decisions lol. If it was available I'd go with the X-Bolt stainless stalker in 7mm RM, but can't find it anywhere. It felt better in my hands than the Tikka(I think mostly due to the stock), the metal trigger guard gives it a more quality look, and the mag seems more solidly built(albeit still plastic).

However, the bolt on the Tikka was butter smooth, it's weight makes it appealing for carrying all day, and as always you know it'll be dead accurate.

The Weatherby Sub-MOA is still tempting, but seems to be a tad heavy and according to an earlier response, the trigger and bolt leave something to be desired?

The TC also seems quite heavy, though guaranteed accurate, but personally, I find it not too pretty to look at(means nothing as far as function is concerned I know, but still who wants a rifle they find unappealing to look at?)

I hate being so undecided. Realistically, I'm sure any of them would work just fine for me, perhaps I should just buy the first used one that I see at a good price and be done with it. Or....maybe just wait for the next shipment of X-Bolts to come in, I dunno....

True that!!! Hopefully I can go pick one up in the next little while, I've been living frugally these last few months, I think it's soon going to be time to abuse the wallet.

IMO Vanguard triggers are getting better over the years. I just picked up a 300win mag and it has a really nice clean trigger. I love WBY's.
