Hey guys I have a rem 700 with the X mark pro trigger. It says in the manual that it comes set at 3 lbs. Clockwise = heavier , counter clockwise = lighter. I thought it was light until I just put a trigger gauge on it. It read 4 .7 lbs. Proble is no matter how much I turn the screw it won't get any lighter. Even with the screw backed all the way out , it still reads 4.5 lbs. I'm using a Lyman digital trigger pull. I tryed it on my SAA .45LC and it was a consistent 3.2 lbs.,And on my S&W 686 it was consistently 4.2 lbs. So is the trigger that crappy or do I have a faulty trigger. Or is it possible my trigger gauge is reading everything with an extra lb added? I thought my Uberti SAA was supposed to have a 2.5 lb pull but it regesters a bit over 3.

Remington errs on the heavy side with trigger pulls... any competent smith can rework it to be safe, crisp and quite light for about $50.... or buy an aftermarket replacement for $175 plus.

700 triggers are good triggers despite comments about them... it's just that Remington sets them heavy and leaves it up to the consumer to lighten them... probably due to old law suits and liability insurance... when you are a big dog for so long you do get picked on...

yes , I've read that. But in the manual it says it's set at 3 lbs . So shouldn't I at lest be able to set it at that? Lowest I can get it is 4.5..

there are 2 trigger weight adjustment screws if i remember right you remove the one in the trigger shoe , take the stock off to get at the other one to adjust it and then put the one back in the trigger shoe just far enough not to screw up your setting. all the trigger shoe setting screw does is control weight over a certain setting its just there to confuse things. 2 out of my 3 rem triggers i got where i want this way they seem very good.

Don't believe everything you read...

Seriously if Remington state 3 pounds and you can't get it under 4.5, contact Remington and they will fix it.
