I tried the search but didn't turn up anything. My question is can you remove he set screw from the trigger with no adverse effects. I'm sure I read somewhere that it was ok because the spring is bigger that he hole and can't come out. Does anybody know?

Yes, you can remove it and the trigger will function perfectly fine. It may be a tad bit less consistent with no pressure on the spring, but it will be totally safe and workable.
