x39 for moose?

Heck, I'd trade you a .303 and some cash to boot for the Tikka if that'd work for you. Or buy the Tikka outright if you really want to sell it. NOT posting WTB BTW folks, just saying it would not be difficult to make a deal with most CGNers.

I'm surprised no one has talked about accuracy. My 30.06 will shoot consistent 1" groups at 100 yards. From what I've heard, an SKS is good for 2" - 5" groups. I would rather know where my bullet is going when I shoot at a moose, how about you?

Well he's got an 858 which should be little better than an SKS for accuracy. Plus 7.62x39 used for a moose is going to be fairly short range, probably under 100yds, where 2" plus groups would put him in the kill zone no problem. I think the cartridges ability to penetrate is the real issue.

The rifle in question is a CZ858, not an SKS.

This is a great idea. Free up some $ while still having a more powerful .30 cal rifle on the roster. A Mosin Nagant would be another great rifle to replace your '06 and they can be had for $150 to $200.
