The last time I shot my X95 a couple of months back, I had some feed issues, which at the time I thought was because I was riding the charging handle instead of using the bolt latch / locking and releasing the bolt. I used a variety of magazines and I just chalked it up to my inexperience with my new purchase.

I took my X95 to the range tonight along with a bunch of new PMAG 30 GEN3s that I recently bought from iRunguns. Price was great, and these were OEM and and pinned to 5.

I decided not to work the charging handle at all. Just lock the bolt latch, seat magazine, give it a upwards bump and then release the bolt.

The first number of times, I experienced the same thing I did a couple of months ago. I pull the trigger, hear click. I drop the mag, pull back the charging handle and a round flies out. Picked up the round, put it back in the mag after locking bolt, press bolt release and presumably the round chambers. Pull trigger. Click.

The RSO saw this and wanted to have a look at the gun. Same thing happened to him but in his case once he got it working (just tried again a few times), it got to round 4. Click. He drops the magazine, pulls back charging handle, locks it, and then looks inside the gun. The round is seated in the gun. He pulls the charging handle back but the round does not eject. So he inserts an empty magazine, pulls the charging handle again and the round flies. out. He said "you may want to avoid using these mags". After his initial inspection he said after he pulled the trigger the first time it doesn't look like the primer was struck. These were brand new PMAG 5/30s right out of the package.

To rule out me being the problem here, I decided to take out my C Products Defense LAR15 steel mags, load them up, locked the bolt catch, inserted mag, released bolt, and all rounds fed, fired, and ejected no problems. Reloaded the LAR15 mag, tried again. Success. No issues for the rest of the evening. So I shall conclude that it is likely not me, and likely not the gun, but the magazines. Yet I read online others who have had no problems with their X95 and PMAGs while others say avoid PMAGs with the similar TAR21 (for different reasons such as putting premature wear on the bolt hold open which is fixed by filing down the back of the PMAG to look like USGI).

Anyways, I want to get your feedback for those who run PMAGs GEN3s with their X95, particular if you have encountered any issues. Thanks.

So I found out the answer to this problem and it took having something similar happen on my MRA Renegade using pinned to 5 PMAGs.

Problem is ultimately the pinned-to-five PMAGs for me cannot have a full 5 rounds in them and feed reliably. They just won't feed properly. The solution for both the X95 and my Renegade is put only 4 rounds in the mag, and everything works 100% of the time. Put in 5 again, there are issues. At least with the two guns I have that is the solution, and it works consistently.

The C Defense LAR15 mags do not have these issues and can be loaded with the max 10.

Sounds like a number of others have the same issue with both the X95 and with some ARs insofar as pinned PMAGs go and inserting it on a closed bolt. I don't know if it get better the more the magazine/springs gets used.

Looks like even John Lovell has made a video on this saying even for a full capacity 30 round PMAG, to load it with 29.

I had the same problem.

Played with all my pmags and found/marked the one's that worked with my X95

I then used Lar mags exclusively and never had a concern

While I am sorry to hear you had the same problem, I am also glad you did so I know I am not the only one or that I was going crazy...

Can someone explain this with respect to the firearm action? So the bolt is not in battery? But the difference is so small that you can't see it from the ejection port?
