I’ve gotten the permission from the lady to look at new hunting rifles.

I was initially looking at the savage 110 high country, but this forum is steering me towards the T3X.

Having found similar features between the 110 HC and the T3X veil wideland, I shopped a bit more at wideland price range and found the x bolt hells canyon.

Which would be your pick and why? Desired caliber is 300WM if that factors anything in your decisions.

Thanks!

Just did a trigger spring change on a Xdolt that belongs to a friend of my son.
That was enough pot metal and Lawyered Engineering to last me a life time.

Browning has F’d up big time with their Xdolt rifles IMO.

Frankly as far as bolt actions go, Browning hasn’t made a decent one since the mid 1980’s.

I’d go with a tikka but put it in a non-tupperware stock. Looks like the Wideland is just a regular stock painted. If a Manners or McMillan are too pricey, I think bell and Carlson are decent.

My feelings as well. The fit and finish on the A-bolt and X-bolt is very good, but the design and materials leave a lot to be desired.

I would have to agree that the x bolt seems to be made of too many flimsy parts. The bolt alone has how many small parts? A push button on the bolt to cycle the action?
Yes x bolts do shoot well, but I got rid of mine because I thought it was made of too many cheap parts. I've never owned a Tikka, but from what I have read, I would go Tikka over the x bolt. The only downside is that you can't put all those cool browning deer head stickers on your truck windows.....
If your heart is not totally set on a Tikka, do yourself a favor, and compare it to a Kimber.

Pick the one that feels best when you shoulder it. My personal choice of the two would be a Tikka, however I’d be going with a more basic model, forego the paint job, and save $500. With the Veil Wideland Tikka being close to $1700 you’re within spitting distance of a Sako 85 or Kimber Montana. I’d happily pay an extra $300-500 for one of those two over a T3.

My vote: Other. Basic T3X or step it up to a better rifle.

Others I would look at below $1500:

- Win M70
- Sako A7
- Kimber Hunter

Love Tikkas in smaller calibers, but they're COAL limited for anything true LA like a win mag. You can put LA AICS bottom metal on a Tikka, but you can't load much past ~3.5" and be able to eject a live round. May or may not mean much to you unless you want to shoot the 200gr+ high BC bullets and get the most out of that caliber.
Sako A7 is even more limited because nobody makes BM for it, so you're stuck using the short SAMMI OAL factory mags. And the Sako magazines are expensive and need feed lip modification to keep from puking cartridges out into your pocket.
To get the most out of a win mag (if you reload), go with a true long action so that you can load heavies long. If you're just shooting factory ammo, Tikka over the Browning. My $0.02.

The tikka apline, woodland and the poly, if you can’t find your caliber now. Your looking for like at least a year or two out for a special order. There was like a pre order for dealers for 2021 and that ship has sailed. Please correct me if I’m wrong that was what I was told from my LGS as I was trying to get one in 7mm-08 for my father.

I voted Other because I think The regular T3X stainless or Tikka Superlite is the best bang for your buck....why pay extra for fashion colours.

Are those stocks going to be lighter than factory or just better ergos?

That’s fair, it’s more the threaded/muzzle brake, cerakote, fluted barrel and bolt more than the stock camo that is making me look at those specific models

I would never pay more for a brake, that I will just remove, and never use anyways. I am not about to wear hearing protection while hunting big game, and firing a braked rifle even once without hearing protection can do serious hearing damage. The brake from mt Christensen is in the box, where it is going to stay, money wasted, but I couldn't buy the rifle without it.

This^^
My opinion being, besides brakes being dangerously loud, if you need a brake to handle the recoil of your rifle, your rifle is too powerful for you. Better to drop down in power until you can shoot effectively. My 2 buddies that shoot with brakes have terrible flinches due to excessive noise and blast, and the rifles having a higher level of recoil than they can personally handle. They are crappy shooters. The older I get, the more I realize that unless you hunt dangerous game, people use WAY TOO MUCH GUN for their actual need. 300 weatherby mags are great, but I have yet to meet a moose that fended off a well placed 300 Savage shot.

my thoughts behind the brake was more that I wanted the threaded muzzle more than the brake.

A guy can hope for silencers one day in this country :p
