I have the 5.56 LAR10 mags with the plastic couplers and have always liked them. When I got a XCR in 7.62, the first thing I did was order a box of 7.62 10rd mags and couplers. I specficaly went to Wolverine because (well besides being the only place that has the XCR pistol mags) I wanted to try the metal couplers instead of the polymer ones, as everyone here says they are much stronger. A bit more money, but probably worth it.

Yippe skippy... I just put them together and.... ACK!!! PFFFTTTTT!!!

Whuuuut?

The XCR pistol mags are a bit more steeply angled, BUT the metal couplers are WAY more angled than the polymer ones I have. Check it:

And here's what they look like side by side, just to show the difference.

And I'm sure someone will ask, yes I'm pretty sure I have them on the right way. ;)

Anyway, will be sending them back to Wolverine.
Not even sure if they'll look good with the plastic ones because of the steeper angle at the base. Does anyone else have an example of the XCR pistol mags in

update

I mounted the metal coupler in reverse, it doesn't lock into place, but it comes close enough that with a teeny bit of dremel work and bolting a plate to it to keep them from sliding out, and it'll be perfect. It looks GREAT, almost pefectly straight, straighter than the .223 mags.

Also, I tried the polymer coupler on the 7.62 pistol mags... it's less ugly than the metal one mounted the correct way... but not by much. Also, it's extremely loose, slides right off with a tiny bit of pressure (very snug on my LAR10's though). It would not be usable without some modification.

Hope this has been useful to the XCR 7/62 guys. I'll post pics of my modified reverse mount one on Monday when I get it finished.

Soooo the question I'm dying to ask....

Will the 7.62 mag hold and feed .223/5.56 and if so.... How many?

Will it hold .223? Yes....13 rounds on the mag I tried. Will it feed? I don't have an AR/XCR so I couldn't tell you, but using my fingers they feed ALOT smoother than 7.62x39, but it almost always double feeds the 2nd & 3rd last rounds.

Holding more than 10 rounds of .223 - yes
feeding your rifle reliably with more than 10 rounds - no

The steep angle of the 76.2X39 follower cause the last few rounds to rise up and cause failure to feed.

I remember posting that coupler on 7.62x39 mags will make it look a boomerang a few months back :p
