Wondered into the Kallispal Montanna gun show yesterday, low and behold a brand new XCR with tan furniture. Heavy, clunky and just a little better finished than a M96 Expidition $1329 US. No mags, no sling, everything extra $$ $250 less than the Bushmaster AR's on the table. I still want one. Used rifle prices identical to ours, ammo slightly cheaper, powder only about $5 less a pound, but the mags. 30 round brand new M14 mags $17 US, 30 rd AR mags, new unissued with green followers, $10 US. I left very, very sad.:(

Having no idea what kind of finish M96 has, I get, from the tone of your writing, that it's not so impressive? Did you get to hold it? By heavy and clunky, do you mean it's like holding a 4X2? :)
I just get terribly excited at these rare sightings!

Actually the pistol grip is very slick and fit like a glove. Quite frankly the piece I handled was pretty crudely finished, straight out of a chinese sweat shop actually. The controls where stiff and rough, but well placed, the charging handle was on the left foreward where it should be but the forend consisted of four pictinny (sp?) rails and was roughly finished and uncomforatable. Heavier than an AR it had none of the refinement of a good AR or Swiss Arms in terms of fit and finish, actually it reminded me of a M305 with a heavy coat of black spray paint. Still want one though.

Maybe the price will drop because of the crappy finish?

Ah~ who am I kidding. It will still be around $1800, bad finish or not...

My guess will be $2500 - 2900, hope I am wrong though.
From Wolverines Supplies site:

XCR Standard 5.56mm

18.6 inch Light barrel

Short Gas system

$1810.00

XCR HBAR 5.56mm

18.6 Inch heavy Fluted Barrel

Long Gas System

$2050.00

This of course assumes that they will get some ...

If the XCR is AS RELIABLE as they say (articles mention that they can handle as much round count as an AK-47 do) and they want to keep the price low, I guess they had to cut a little on the finish. A high quality finish is very expensive and eyes candy only.

I better have a reliable weapon with medium finish instead of a jamming nice looking jewel.

But who knows … it’s just my guess. We’ll know soon though.

I have to say that the XCR is too good to be true. I REALLY LOVE the idea of having that kind of firearm not restricted. Just can't wait ...

I am at the point of writing an email to Robinson Arms and ask them where they will display the beast at a gun show in a state not too far from Quebec.

If I find one, believe me I'll flood you guys with pictures...
