XCR bolt catch problem

So I'm new to the XCR and in an effort to learn the ins and outs of this rifle I do what I usually do; rip the thing apart and spend a day trying to get it back together :p

Today I reassembled my XCR and found that the mag release button in front of the trigger guard is sloppy and loose. when I put a mag in, it is firm and doesn't bounce around. I don't think I'm missing any parts as pictured.

I'm not sure what that little spring does that sits in the little groove because its not making contact with anything. Getting frustrated.

It's always loose. The reason its tight when you put in the magazine is because the mag is empty and the follower is pushing up the bolt release, thus tightening it up.

I still can't believe they got a patent for a rod with the plate on the end.

Yeah I figured that much out but it still feels too sloppy to be a deliberate design. Also can you please explain what the hell that spring does; (inserted beside the bolt catch) it doesn't make any contact with anything! The bolt release button doesn't make contact with it and it sorta just bounces around in there. That in particular makes me feel like I'm missing a piece.

Hi,

I'm having the same problem with mine - however mine came right out and a small "pin" came out with it. There is a small hole in the end of the pin inside the rifle, not sure if the pin goes through it. I've tried contacting RA but haven't gotten anything from them. Anyone have a diagram or know where the small pin goes? It is about and inch long - my bolt release stopped working and then the pin just fell out along with the spring.

Thanks,
Tim

Loose like that is normal don't worrie about it. There is nothing wrong with the bolt realse.

It normal to think there is something wrong beacause it is more loose then any other gun I have owned.

well ok I guess the consensus is that it is always loose with no mag in. Can anyone tell me the reason behind the unnecessary spring. second picture down, it almost looks like a roll pin in the picture; just to the right of the bolt catch cylinder.

In the spirit of learning and sharing, take that unnecessary spring out, reassemble the bolt catch and report back us how the rifle functions after that, I am curious to know :)

That little spring, I assume, is to push the bolt catch down.

Likely its jammed up.

The sring is to assist the bolt release dornwerd.

Try pushing up on the release without a mag inserted and the release should push downwerd when you let go.

Keep in mind it is very faint the bolt releas dose not need a lot of sring pressure for it to come down that spring is just to assist the release not control it completely

Cheers

Did that. Woks fine. I'm gonna call wolverine and see if they can tell me what's up. If I find a solution I will post it

If that is true then mine is broken. The spring is too short to make any type of contact with the bolt release. I'll call the Robinson guys, again I will post with the resolution.
Thanks for the input boys

Dear Sir:

That spring is very necessary and the assembly is supposed to be loose. If it were tight, it would be very hard to push down when bolt pressure was against it.

I hope this answers your questions.

Sincerely,

Tech

Well he doesn't answer what the loose spring actually does but hey its better than being ignored. It's like having a spring bouncing around inside a ping pong ball. It has a use, but I'll be damned if I know what the hell it is.

My Bolt Catch broke in half this past Saturday, no clue or reason until RA Tech told me:
"The vendor gave us paperwork that showed they had been heat treated properly but they had not"

I could still use the rifle that day at the range but obviously the bolt would not lock back after emptying my mag.
I only found the bolt and the spring was lost...

Wolfgang at Wolverine put one in the mail for for next day and RA also said send them the broken one and they will replace it. Both answered me back in no time and great CS :)

Picked up my XCR new in september. Bolt catch never worked right(thought it could be the mags) After about 300 rounds down the pipe took it apart, and my bolt catch rod is in two pieces. Emailed wolverine really hoping they can get me back up and running.
