So I was bored and started screwing around with my XCR 7.62x39 pistol magazines because I hate the thin base plates and wanted something a bit more durable. Magpul ranger plates = √ ... Magpul L-plates = √ ... and LAR-15 aluminium mag couplers = √

It's not the worst banana-shaped looking magazine, and it's actually quite functional despite the odd angle. Probably more challenging finding a pouch, though...

Tested, 100% functional and it will load on a closed bolt with 10x 6.8SPC (I suspect this will translate to 9x 7.62x39 unless you file the posts of the followers down by a few millimetres). Installation was super-easy (you need to completely move the hex screw when inserting). When fully loaded they are inseparable and there's only a teeny, tiny amount of flex (because they obviously weren't designed with the XCR magazines foremost in mind).

5, 10 or 20 rounds...? Man our firearms laws are stupid..."

Blaxsun and XCR item in the same post without without a mention of Loctite or haterade?

The end must be near....

PHEW, that's better! I was about to grab my bug out bag and head for the hills!

Try installing the coupler backwards so the combined mag is almost vertical, and using a small screw to lock it in place. Found it a bit snugger.

How come it only feeds 9 rounds? I thought they were designed for 10?

Or did you mix up 7.62x39 and 6.8SPC in your post? As in "10x 7.62x39 and 9x 6.8SPC".

I am just not feeling it, I like your threads better when you were busy building PDW's :p

You have to see the (empty) magazines loaded to truly appreciate it. It kind of gives it a stealthy, angular look. ;)

I have a couple sets of the 7.62 mags done up the same way. Does look a little goofy alright, but works OK.

What's interesting is that they actually feel a bit more natural to insert. I'm not sure that offsets the 'look', but time will tell.

Nope - the 7.62x39 magazines hold 11 rounds of 6.8SPC pre-modification. But the LAR couplers into that just enough so that only 10 rounds of 6.8SPC are comfortable to load. It's possible it will still hold 10 rounds of 7.62x39 (I didn't have any to try), but it may not load on a closed bolt then.

Ahh, my misunderstanding then.

How many 5.56 rounds can it hold? :D:D:D:D

good thing the AR is such an adaptable platform...

thats only one round less then the 5/10 .5 beowulfs...

but they look like a 5/30 5.56 banna mag if that floats your boat...

just need the beowulf pistol....

13...
Looks like 13 is the new 10 - just as 10 was the new 5! Seemed to feed ok using dummy rounds, but I guess it needs a live test...

Waiting on the range report ;).

Look at all of the XCR love coming from Blaxsun.... oh wait a sec....

There's a bit of 'play' in the magazines. I might need some of the blue stuff to correct that...

...there it is. Mandatory Loctite joke .

Me too. Probably won't be for a week or so yet, but anyone else that can beat me to the punch should feel free to give it a whirl. Yes, I have to maintain a certain loctite quota to keep my endorsement... ;)
