Fired about 220 rounds last night. I was getting stove pipes every magazine at gas setting 2. Then I switched to gas setting 4 and the stove pipes went away. Accuracy was about 4 MOA using a non magnified 2 MOA red dot.

For me, this rifle was a replacement for a VZ58 as I am getting out of 7.62x39 to focus on less caliber types, and increase the exchangeability of parts, such as STANAG magazines. So as a VZ58 replacement, the XCR is perfect. It's roughly the same cost as the amount I spent in rifle + magazines + parts upgrades for my VZ58 (!), but unlike the VZ58 at least I can reuse anything else I buy for the XCR (magazines etc.). Ergonomically, the XCR is much better because of the drop free magazines, non reciprocating charging handle, the positions of the mag release and bolt release, and the long rail. Weight wise and balance wise, they're both equal. The iron sights of the XCR are of course much much better than the VZ58.

I keep comparing with the CZ858/VZ58 because it was my first semi-auto rifle, and therefore every other rifle is compared with it for weight and balance. Rifles that are too heavy or too front heavy automatically become non contenders. I never considered the XCR previous to the keymod+lightweight barrel because of this.

So far I'm happy. I'm hoping that by the time I get to the 500 round count, I can reduce the gas setting to 1 or 2.

4 MOA at what distance?

Just curious if you read the manual for breakin, or did you go off posts on CGN and other sites? I don't normally follow breakins, but my XCR, the last gen before the keymod, was my first adjustable gas system....not entirely true, I owned a T97...but not for long :). In my manual, it says 40 rounds at setting 4, then drop down. I did that and have been at setting 2 without issue since (never had an issue at 4, just a lot of trigger slap). I have only run Norc ammo in the XCR.

Are you running pinned mags or LAR/XCR Pistol mags? I have not used the 5rd XCR mag in mine yet.

I got 2 inch groups at 50m.

I didn't RTFM unfortunately. I was going off the optimistic reports that "I set it at 2 from the beginning!" and so that's what I started at. I am running LAR mags.

Yeah your supposed to run on 4 for 300 rounds then its broken in you can dial it back. You also have to run it real wet during break in. Check out the xcr forums and download the xcr armours course pdf they have.

which is it - 40 rounds or 300 at setting 4?

Hey everybody I just purchased ax xcr from ee and can't wait to get it... Does the stock fold on the keymod, I'm under the impression here in the great north it's not allowed?

Guys, it is 40rds. NOT 2-4 hundred. Where are the guys that shot a buddies brothers, sisters uncle's XCR-L when you need them.....:jerkit:

Hopefully pictures will aid the masses...

....you wonder why guys are destroying recoil buffers and the like. The #####in about the gun I have owned since January, and the ignorance and abundance of so-called experts on the brand still amazes me.

Mine never liked LAR mags. I think RA downsized the gas port or made some major changes to bolt weight/spring rate because mine ran on setting 1, ejecting 15-20 ft. Hot ammo would cycle on the suppressor setting. To have guys now cranking it up to 4 to get them to cycle is concerning. Adjustable gas systems are for harsh conditions. Crank er up when she gets dirty to keep er chuggin along. If it needs to be cranked up to get a clean rifle cycling then something is wrong.

I have the xcr's armours course on PDF and it says after 300 rounds the rifle is fully broken in. you can download it on the xcr forums unless there is a way I can post it up here? I can always email it to you guys PM me. its an excellent read with full colour photos and step by step to tear the gun down past the field strip.

It's outdated.

Both RA factory and Wolverine have confirmed that you should run it on the setting that it ejects ammo 10 - 15 ft reliably without any stoppages for the break in and work it down from there. Different ammo will require different settings, some I've seen break in at 2, others 4, dependant on ammo. Run it at the setting it's operating reliably, and move down from there. Otherwise you may be causing premature wear to your gas system.

The manual and documentation require updating.

Back to the OP, I'm glad that you're enjoying the rifle. Keymod weight distribution seems to be a decent selling feature to the latest gen rifles.

Congrats boys. On a side note about break in, just run it on the lowest setting that it will function properly (no failures). My rifle has never left gas setting 1 as it never needed too. Running it on 4 will not help parts "groove" together anymore more than a lower setting.

Forget the manual. Always run my XCR's on the lowest setting possible right out of the gates(usually 2)with no issues. Took a brand spanking new key mod .223 out tonight and set it on 2 and it ran like a champ. Man do they heat up fast tho, even the key mod hanguard gets hot.

Why is it always setting 2 or 4? Is there something wrong with setting 3?
I agree with those that say run it on whatever setting cycles reliably and throws empties 10-15 feet away. Once fully broken in just run on the lowest setting that cycles 100% reliably. The less gas the easier it is on the rifle and the smoother the rifle will cycle allowing more control for follow-up shots. Settings may also be dependent on how hot the ammo you are running is.
