XCR-L vs. XCR-M

I'm not bashing on the xcr-m, it's great for what it is.
I get riled up about these misleading claims though.
Some poor noob is going to read stuff like that, save up his pennies to buy the pricey rifle, and then spend a year beating himself up about how he can't get very good groups out of it, but he knows it's a 1.25 moa rifle, cause he read it on the internet...

It will do .308 inch one shot group :stirthepot2:

So the M is only in 7.62x51 for now? Is it fairly easy to find 7.62x39 or 6.8 spc non fmj factory rounds for the L for deer hunting? The 223 option would be soooo much fun at the range. Might have to buy an L and an M eventually....or just a bolt for hunting.

6.8 is very expensive for factory ammo and soft point 7.62x39 didn't used to be too bad but I haven't tried to find any since I sold my SKS a couple years ago. If you get 6.8 I suggest you learn to reload.
Best choice for an all around rifle is the M and then buy the bulk norinco FMJ from Canada Ammo for plinking at the range and then whatever the rifle likes that is appropriate for hunting for use during hunting season. Just remember to re-zero the optics before hunting season to work with the new ammo.

XCR L and I presume the M as we'll are heavy. Keep this in mind if you are hunting with it. For example, when predator hunting, you are typically prone calling it in with little walking, except to change sites. If you are stalking elk, you might wish for a lighter rifle. Especially compared to an r1.

So...the M will be a fun range gun and ok for deer BUT a light bolt would be better for the bigger game which I can definitely see after dragging my R1 around lol.

Any tips on whether I should wait for the 2014 Ms or certain serial numbers I should be above? I have read to wait for the Ls new bolt but nothing on the Ms....thank you all for the wisdom you are imparting

I suppose 7.62x39 may be pushing it a little bit for Elk hunting (good for deer), but with the cheaper cost of ammo. over the .308 you could practice a whole lot more allowing yourself to be significantly more accurate which would help with the lighter hitting x39 round when hunting Elk. The lighter L model would also be a bonus to carry in the woods over the heavier M model.

I've read the new XCR's are coming out with a new version where it's made lighter by Keymod (removing a significant portion of the picatiny rails saves weight) this would be available for the L and M models and this version along with an optional lighter barrel would make an M model quite a bit lighter for hunting. I've read off of other Gunnutz threads that XCR's with serial numbers before 7###x should be avoided, but thats only second hand off the net.

Research is key (lots and lots) before dropping your cash, but don't forget to find an opportunity to hold and shoot (if possible) each rifle you are considering as this will offer you the best chance of finding a rifle that fits you best.

Best of luck on your hunt..

Thank you all. I went for an L in 223 and have the 6.8 kit coming. Can't wait to take it to the range this week. I truly do appreciate all of your input!!

The new bolts are already exist for the XCR-M.
If you want to wait for the new XCR M with new keymod rail and other rail options...then yes, wait for it.

I will admit, I am an XCR fanoldfart. But unless the "L" modified the trigger since mine. Buy the match grade trigger & sear. It will cost an extra $100, but it is money well spent. Mine is a few revisions old, but the stock trigger had a lot of slap. They may have fixed it since mine? So check it out. The 6.8 S.P.C. is a great cartridge for deer...
