Recently acquired and XCR-L in .223 from the newest batch.
I've put about 500 rounds through it, with no failures of any kind. (and no parts loosening)
I've had an 858 for a long while now and have a couple thousand rounds down the pipe. Here's a quick comparison of the two, and some observations.

Overall length: is pretty similiar. The XCR is only about an inch longer and that is from the flash hider.

Weight: the XCR is heavy. Empty my XCR weighs 8.4 lbs, compared to an empty CZ 858 being 6.2 lbs (according to my scales). That's a pretty significant weight difference.

Ergonomics: Both I find to be very ergonomic, slight edge to the XCR because the user controls are very accessible and fast to actuate.

Field Stripping: Edge here goes to the XCR. Both are very easy to field strip and clean, but the XCR is definately faster. Especially the re-assembly (at least for me) I always have to play with the 858 to get the bolt carrier in.

858 parts:

Sights: Adjustable ghost ring flip ups come standard on the XCR vs the 858 with adjustable iron sights. (vertical adjustment only, tools needed for horizontal adjustment). I would say edge XCR. Although I do like the 858 standard sight picture.

Accessories: The XCR is already fulled railed for any picatinny accessories. The 858 can be outfitted with picatinny rails for accessories, but I prefer it in the stock configuration.

Accuracy: Both are very accurate for what they are. Edge goes to the XCR again. The trigger is crisper and less recoil equals tighter groups. (in my experience)

Overall Opinion: I love both of these rifles. Is the XCR worth the price tag? That is a matter of opinion...
I don't feel it is a "better" rifle than the 858. It is a novelty since you can use 10 round mags in the woods for plinking pop cans with the XCR. And it will be a great coyote gun.
You could however buy 3 858's and crate of ammo....
Cheers,
Brent

You found the ergos of the XCR only slightly better than a VZ-58?...IMHO your review lost all credibility at that point :p
I love my VZ's too, but c'mon.

As an owner of both the XCR .223 and 858 (and AR’s etc) I can honestly tell you that when the meteor strikes, my go-to gun will without a doubt be the 858.

Any comparisons on the 7.62x39 XCR kit vs. the 858? I am just currious when using cheap surplus if there is any noticable accuracy difference between the two.
