Can anybody give me the real goods on the grip safety on the Springfield XD-9??? Something about it seems so wrong, but I don't want to discount the pistol as an option unless the model has any issues, grip safety aside.

But that damn grip safety.......;)

I have an XD and like it a lot. To tell you the truth I don't even notice the grip safety, to me its a non issue. There have been lots of cases of AD with Glocks while holstering etc with the trigger getting snagged on something. If you release your grip enough to disengage the safety on your XD when holstering etc. you will not have this problem with an XD.

before i bought mine i fondled one in a store then rented one at a range while fondling i thought the same as you that the grip safety was going to be very annoying but once i shot it i didnt even realise it was there the weight of a full magazine makes a huge difference they are great to shoot and i actually really like the extra saftey factor

XD is a glock rip off, plan and simple, ADs are not the guns fault, I supposed if you have concerns about your safe handling techniques, get a gun with a grip/manual safety, otherwise, get the glock.

I agree.
I really, really want a XDM. I cannot wait intill they come into the country.

I own a Glock 22 and I agree that the XD was no doubt "inspired by" the Glock. Yet I love shooting the XD! Great gun, never had a feed problem unless I crammed in every round I could into the mag (bad idea for all mags anyway). It is true that racking means the grip safety must be engaged, but with very little practice you'll be clearing every malfuction as fast as a Glock.

I like the XD!

I read a post on a US board about an XD that had to go back to SAI with a live round in the chamber because the grip safety broke.

I don't know where you get your info but its wrong. If your firearm won't feed from a full magazine you bought a POS.

I echo what has been mentioned, the grip safety is a useless device and does nothing to prevent negligent discharges. Proper training and the soft stuff between your ears are the best safety devices available.

i think the grip safety on the XD is there to draw 1911 crows to a polymer pistol. almost non of us really need/use any safety features on our guns. the gun is either on the branch locked open or in your hands being used. unless you shoot ipsc but wouldnt you want the simplest gun to compete with anyways? when i buy my guns. i usually pick ones with little safety features simply because i dont need any there for one less piece to fail.

I had an XD 9, and the grip safety is not an issue whatsoever. Why would anybody complain about a passive safety device that doesn't interfere with the functionality of the firearm? The XD is a good pistol: I had zero issues with mine, after a few thousand rounds.

You're right, grip safeties and now thumb safeties are a marketing tool designed to attract the ignorant 1911 crowd to buy another pistol that is eerily similar in operation to the 1911's they already own.

Your position on the use of manual safety devices is WRONG. Regardless of whether or not the action is open or the firearm in is your direct control. ALL FIREARMS ARE ALWAYS LOADED. Shooting a service pistol from the bench is wrong on so many levels. Many of us use a holster and not just for storing the firearm, we shoot from the holster.

I agree yet somehow the passive safeties(all three) on Glocks get nothing but negative comments??
